We Welcome Children
Children are welcomed and encouraged to participate in worship at Peace. So that they,
and all, may experience worship meaningfully, please note:
Nurture:
We offer Children's Time for children ages 4 through 9
(younger if accompanied by an adult) during the
regular sermon time.
Comfort:
We provide a staffed, fully-equipped nursery for
children 3 and younger. If your child becomes
restless, you may wish to worship with her/him
through the viewing window and via piped-in sound in
the nursery. Please ask an usher for directions.
Safety:
We ask that an adult accompany any child who is
outside the building.

We welcome all who wish to join us as

We offer classes Sunday mornings September through May from 9:45 to 10:45 for
4-year-olds through adult.
PreK through 5th grade students start with an opening
in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45.

It’s Soup - Last Chance!
Our last Lenten Soup Supper will take place this Wednesday,
March 25th. Supper will begin at 5:30 and end at 6:30.
Volunteers are needed to make soup, bring bread, set up and
clean up. Please register in the narthex.
Thrivent Choice Dollars From 2014 Now Eligible for YOU to Direct.
Thrivent Financial is a fraternal insurance company -- that is, instead of paying taxes to Uncle
Sam, they pay YOU (if you are a Thrivent member). Really, they let you direct where SOME of the
money goes. They are called Thrivent "Choice Dollars" because it is YOUR choice where the
dollars go!
If you have almost any Thrivent insurance, IRA, annuity,or Health insurance -- then you probably
have Thrivent Choice dollars in your account. There are two easy ways to spend those dollars on a
good charity, like Peace Lutheran Church, Gettysburg Seminary, the food pantry (CCCFP, Inc.)
If you prefer the phone to the internet, call 1-800-THRIVENT (that is 1-800-847-4836) and say,
Fraternal, Thrivent Choice dollars. Someone will help direct your money to your favorite charity
(PLC for example), and that's all there is to it! If you like the internet, sign on to your Thrivent,com
account (www..thrivent.com) with your login and password. Then for Membership benefits,
Thrivent choice, select your charity then "direct" money to that charity.
I can help too! Thrivent Financial is not JUST for Lutherans anymore!! It can be for any Christian! If
you're not one, be one! I recently received an email from our Thrivent Rep Liz Swann, she
indicated that Peace has accumulated $2,000.00 of undesignated funds for Choice dollars. Once
a quarter you can designate to any of the charities that are listed. Including Peace Lutheran
Church. In 2014 council approved the use of your choice dollars for the furniture and fixture fund.

A note from Christian Education
For the past few weeks Coffee Time after both services has been moved to the Fellowship Hall.
We would like to invite one-and-all to have a coffee/tea and a treat, then linger and join us for 15
minutes of music (9:45-10:00). If you choose not to sing with us, please enjoy the treats and
converse quietly so as not to interfere with the kids.
Please Help Us Keep Our Building Secure
There have recently been occasions when we have found entry doors to the church property not
fully shut. This has occurred both with the doors to the new Ministry Center, and even more
frequently with the doors leading to Sanctuary side of the building. Those doors in particular have
a tendency to not always shut completely. Please help us to keep our facility secure by double
checking to make sure all doors are completely shut and locked before you leave the building.
As you know, we had a recent break-in. Let’s do our best to prevent another.

Vital Community
To monks’ vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, St. Benedict added stability, convinced that
anyone wanting to grow in Christ must learn to be part of a community. It is, of course, harder to live
out Christ’s love among people who sometimes annoy us than in isolation. But if love is practiced
and no one’s around to experience it, is it really love?
In Living the Lord’s Prayer (Bethany House), David Timms writes: “[Benedict] knew very well that
grace could only flourish when it encountered offense; forgiveness requires conflict; healing
emerges from hurt; and strength arises from struggle. Thus, the pathway to true spiritual formation
demands long-term engagement with others in community.”
When life together gets difficult, we do ourselves no favors by “picking up our toys and leaving”;
we’ll just encounter new difficulties elsewhere. Rather, by working things out in Christlike love, we
grow as followers of Jesus and members of his body.
A Churchless Christian
In response to the question “Can I be a Christian without joining the church?” someone once said
it’s as possible as being:
A student who will not go to school.
A soldier who will not join an army.
A citizen who does not pay taxes or vote.
A salesman with no customers.
An explorer with no base camp.
A seaman on a ship without a crew.
A businessman on a deserted island.
An author without readers.
A tuba player without an orchestra.
A parent without a family.
A football player without a team.
A politician who is a hermit.
A scientist who does not share his findings.
A bee without a hive.

Observations From the Church Office
Last One In’s an Old Man - Partying Like You’re 3
When was the last time you were in a ball pit? You know what I
mean, those pools filled entirely with colorful plastic balls. I know, I
know, the signs always say it’s for kids 10 and under. But really,
when are you too old to jump into one of those wonderful bins of
fun-filled merriment? Well, I’m thinking, maybe 85, because at that
age it’s going to be really difficult to get back out.
My beautiful granddaughter, Emma Grace just celebrated her 3rd birthday at one of those places
designed especially for kids. Do I need to mention any names? Let’s just say there was a large
mouse prowling around with kids following him as if he were a modern day pied piper. It was
noisy, crowded, chaotic and kaleidoscopic. In short, it was was everything little ones love.
Children were running everywhere, cups of gold colored tokens overflowing in their hands. Trying
to follow little Emma, as she darted from ride to game to that massive maze like tunnel and slide
that ringed the ceiling of the main room, was the most challenging thing I’ve done in a long while.
But, even though things seemed disorderly and disorganized, I was taken by surprise at how
willing the kids were to help each other. Emma was a bit younger than many of her tunnel climbing
partners, but they always slowed down enough to help lift her over the next obstacle when her
legs were too short to make it on their own.
I consider myself to be an organized person, and I have to admit to being a little out of my element
in this environment of free-wheeling activities. Happily, children do not seem to be bound by the
same constraints we adults place upon our own behaviors. There was food, and cake, but none
of those things mattered. The day was all about celebration and having fun. Gifts were not even
exchanged (there would be time for that later), as there was no need. The gift that mattered was
being a part of that special moment.
When Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem, excited crowds gathered to lay palm leaves and
express their joy over the coming of the King. I suspect that the streets of Jerusalem might also
have been a bit chaotic during that event, but like children, the people tossed aside their
inhibitions and fears, and exalted in the thrill of the moment. The day was all about celebration
and jubilation. No gifts were given or received on that day, because, again, the gift that mattered
was being a part of that special moment. The real gift was to come later with the forgiveness of
sins. What if we were able to approach each new day with the knowledge that we were part of
another special moment - each new day a gift from God - each new day, another reason to
celebrate?
And now, if you’ll excuse me, a truckload of plastic balls is calling me to join the celebration.

Safe Nights
Our next Safe Nights program will be March 29 through April 4. We will be needing your help
to fulfill our mission to provide housing and food for the area’s homeless. There are many jobs
that need to be done from setting up the cots to transporting them to the next location. Meal
preparation and serving, as well as overnight stays are needed. A complete list is available in
the Narthex where you can sign up to serve in this important mission of the church.
