Marian Leaving School After Arrival policy reminders: If your student must leave school early for any reason (e.g.
medical appointment), s/he must: 1. Bring a note signed by a parent or guardian to the Main Office before school on
the day of the appointment; 2. Sign out at the Main Office before leaving the building; 3. Check in at the Main Office
upon returning to school. Students who violate this procedure can be considered truant. Please see pages 17-18 of the
Student/Parent Handbook for the complete policy. Also, for the safety of our students, in accordance with Marian
Catholic's policies, we must stress that when a student is ill or feels they need to go home for any medical reason, that
they do not contact a parent via text message, email or cell phone during school hours. The student should report to
the Main Office and the nurse will contact the parent with any necessary medical information. Please see page 14 of
the handbook for the complete policy. Thank you for your compliance with these policies.

Marian Catholic Classroom Driver Education April-May 2015: Marian Catholic is offering a session of classroom driver’s
education on the following dates: April 15,16,20,21,22,23,25,27,28,29, and 30 and May 4, 2015. Classes are held in the
study hall on weekdays from 2:30–5:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $100 and needs to be
paid as follows: $80 check or money order only made payable to Marian Catholic High School (due at time of
registration) and $20 money order only made payable to the Illinois Secretary of State for the driving permit and paid
directly to the instructor on the first day of class. All students must be 15 years of age by the end of the classroom
instruction. Attendance is mandatory for all dates. Registration is on a first come first served basis in the main office. Class
size is limited to 30 students and must be reached in order for the class to run. No refunds will be given. Behind-theWheel Instruction: Registration for behind-the-wheel instruction is the responsibility of the parent and does incur an
additional fee. Parents may make arrangements for instruction, with the facility of their choice, once the classroom
instruction is complete. Listed here are a few options. Please note the additional fee in bold: Glenwood Driving School

University of Chicago Midwest Longitudinal Study of Asian American Families (ML-SAAF) is conducting a survey with
Filipino families with teenagers to learn about family, culture, youth development and how to raise our youth to be

Thornton Fractional School District 215 Summer Driver's Ed 2015: Thornton Fractional School District 215 is offering summer
driver’s education to students who reside within District 215. Registration is at The Center for Academics and
Technology, T.F. North or T.F. South High School bookstore now through May 8, 2015. When registering, please mention if
classroom instruction is needed. The cost is $250 with an additional charge of $20 for the learners permit. The session will
run June 10, 2015 through July 30, 2015 tentatively. Additional information is available in Marian's main office.
Crete-Monee High School 2015 Summer Driver Education: Crete-Monee High School is offering classroom and driving
phases of driver education during the summer to Marian Catholic students. Those interested must have completed their
sophomore year in school and have passed eight classes in the previous two semesters of school. Additional
information is located in the Main Office.
Summer 2015 Homewood-Flossmoor High School Driver's Education: Homewood-Flossmoor school district is offering
driver’s education to Marian Catholic students who reside within their school district. The course begins on June 1 and
ends on June 25. All classes are mandatory, no refunds will be given. Students must be 16 years old before May 1, 2015.
Additional information is available in the Main Office.
iPad Responsibility: Along with the implementation of iPads comes the additional responsibility for our students to care
for their electronic devices both on and off the school campus. While on campus, students are expected to keep their
iPads with them whenever possible or locked in their locker. While off campus, students are responsible for charging
their iPads at home in the evening so they come to school with a fully charged device to get through the school
day. However, if your student forgets his or her iPad in the morning, the Main Office staff will not accept devices to be
dropped off for distribution to students. Other non-emergency drop-offs such as lunches, homework, etc. are also being
discouraged, as this will encourage students to become more responsible. We appreciate our parents' compliance
with this policy.
Meal Time Accounts: If your student chooses to purchase lunch in the cafeteria, they must have funds deposited into
their Meal Time account. Money may be deposited on-line with a credit card (on Marian website, under Parents,
Mealtime Online link. It usually takes 48 hours for the Mealtime & Marian's computers to synchronize, so money
deposited on-line may take a day or two to appear on your student's account). Cash or checks may be brought to the
Tuition Office/Bookstore (located near the main office) prior to 8:35 a.m. for funds to appear in your student's account
that day. If you experience problems with Meal Time on-line, please call their help number at 1-800-755-0904. For your







information, the MCHS cafeteria menu and price list can be found on the Marian website under Parents. Please
remember that no cash is exchanged in the cafeteria.
Student ID's: Students are to wear a school-issued ID on the school-issued black & white lanyard around their neck
during school hours every school day! Failure to wear the lanyard and ID card will result in a detention. If students forget
their ID, they may rent a temporary ID for that day at the Welcome Desk (outside of the Main Office) before 7:40 a.m.
The rental fee is $10 ($5 for the ID & $5 deposit), and a detention is issued. Five dollars will be returned and the detention
cancelled if the ID and lanyard are returned immediately after school. If they do not return the rental ID immediately
after school, there is no refund and the detention stands. If students do not have the rental fee they can pay before
school the next day; after that the rental fee is doubled to $10. If students lose their ID, you must purchase a new ID for a
fee of $5. The cost for a new lanyard is $5. Please consult page 26 of your Parent/Student Handbook for the complete
ID policy.
After School Supervision is provided in the Leadership Center for students who need to wait for their ride home. While in
the Leadership Center a study hall environment will be maintained and students must have their student ID, remain in
dress code, use the restroom located in the Leadership Center, use their cell phone for texting only, may listen to MP3's
using ear buds or headphones, and must ask a supervisor to use their phone to call for a ride home. Students will only
be allowed to exit through the Leadership Center doors and not allowed to re-enter the building once they exit.
Students who remain in the Leadership Center past 5:30 p.m. will be charged a $25 fee for every 30 minutes they stay
past 5:30 p.m. After school supervision in the Leadership Center is not available on half-day schedule days. Please
consult page 8 of your handbook regarding this policy.

Theta Rho Omega Scholarship deadline has been extended until this Friday, March 27th. Please come to Guidance to

Attention Athletes: If you have any outstanding Marian Madness entrance or raffle tickets, it’s time to turn them in to
your coaches. Whether they are sold or not, all tickets need to be returned by the middle of this week.

Congresswoman Robin Kelly will host a College Savings Night on Thursday, April 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Matteson
Public Library, 801 School Avenue, Matteson. Participants will learn about College Illinois and Bright Start, two valuable
college savings programs offered by the State of Illinois. Parents and children of all ages are encouraged to attend. For

Camp University at Homewood-Flossmoor High School is a 5-week summer program designed for rising freshmen,
sophomore and junior high school students interested in high achievement. The aim is to empower students with the
exposure and training necessary to excel on college entrance exams, while providing an organized group platform for
them to continue training in their sport of choice. Monday-Thursday students will receive 90 minutes of PSAT exam prep,
followed by an afternoon core program of 90 minutes of elite group training/instruction in their extracurricular activity of
choice (golf, basketball, tennis, volleyball, modern dance, soccer or instrumental music). At the end of each week
students will participate in campus tours of several universities in the Chicago area. Camp University runs July 6 through
August 7, 2015 from 1:30-5:00 p.m. at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. The cost for the camp is $800. For more

Purdue University Calumet Open House is Saturday, March 28th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Purdue Cal offers nearly 100

Seniors interested in medicine can check out Indiana University School of Medicine-Northwest's program "The Freshman
to Physical Experience" on Saturday, April 11th 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Topics covered: Preparing for medical school, get
accepted into IU School of Medicine; research opportunities available as an undergrad and students comments about

STEM @PSC Summer 2015 Science & Math Camp Prairie State College (PSC) is recruiting 24 students from the PSU district
to take part in the Summer Science & Math Camp. To be considered for this opportunity, students must be currently
enrolled at a high school in the PSC district and entering their senior year in the fall of 2015. Students must be in good
academic standing, have completed at least two algebra courses with a grade of C or better, have completed at
least one lab science course with a grade of C or better, and have a career interest or anticipated college major in a
STEM related area. Students will participate in classroom discussions, group projects, labs, and field trips that bring
together the topics of chemistry, physics, biology, math and other special topic areas. The Science & Math Camp takes
place from July 6 to 30, Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-Noon at PSC. Participation will not provide college credits, but
does provide a valuable learning experience. Applications with more detailed information are available in the Main
Office. Deadline for submission is April 30, 2015.
Scholarship Opportunities:
Marchegiana Scholarship applications are available in the College Room for seniors of Italian descent. An essay on
what it means to you to be Italian is required. Deadline May 1, 2015.



Aquin Guild Scholarship applications are available in the College Room to seniors if you are a practicing Catholic and
are an active member in your parish. Two letters of recommendation, transcript, 1 page essay, and copy of college
acceptance letter is needed by May 1, 2015.
Village of Olympia Fields Presidential Scholarship is available to seniors who reside in Olympia Fields with the following
requirements: unweighted 3.0 GPA or higher, ACT 20 or SAT combined score 1390, community service, 2 letters of
recommendation, and a personal statement essay. Download application at: www.olympia-fields.com. Deadline:
March 31, 2015.
Oak Forest Rotary Scholarship is available to seniors who reside in Oak Forest. Pick up an application in the College

Illinois Sons of Italy Scholarship application is available in the College Room for seniors of Italian descent, who are in
financial need, good academic record, and community service/leadership. Transcript, 2 letters of recommendation,
essay and photo are also needed. Deadline: July 1, 2015.
Monee Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship is available to seniors who are a resident of Monee and/or
unincorporated Monee Township, have a 2.5 GPA or better, involved in community service, include 2 letters of
recommendation and an 200 word essay about your future education and career goals. Come to the College Room to
pick up the information. Deadline: April 30, 3015.
VFW Post 311 Commander's Scholarship: is available to seniors who are a descendant of a Veteran, have a 2.5 GPA or

Park Forest Youth Commission Scholarship is available to seniors who live in Park Forest. Please check out the

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Chi Lambda Chapter Scholarship is available to seniors with an exceptional GPA, 18 or higher
ACT, strong communication skills-oral & written, special skills and abilities, positive self-concept, motivation and

St. John Chamber of Commerce Scholarship is available to seniors who reside within the town limits of St. John, Indiana.

University Park Academic Scholarship applications are available in the College Room for seniors who reside in University
Park. Deadline: April 1, 2015.
Village of Tinley Park Youth Community Service Scholarship applications are available in the College Room for seniors
who reside within the village boundaries of Tinley Park. Six scholarships will be awarded to applicants having provided
outstanding community service to Tinley Park, in addition to participation in the classroom. Application,
recommendations, and essay are required. Deadline: April 3, 2015.
Dolton Classroom Teachers Association scholarship applications are available in the College Room for Dolton seniors.
Teacher recommendation is required along with a brief description of future school and career plans. Deadline: April
24, 2015.
Beverly Hills University Club Scholarship is available to seniors residing in the boundaries of Beverly Hills, Evergreen Park,
Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park. Come to the College Room to pick up an application. Deadline: April 25, 2015.
South Suburban Youth Service Alliance (SSYSA) Scholarship is available for those seniors with 2.5 GPA. Requirements also
include: essays and 2 letters of reference. Deadline: April 17, 2015.
ADK Kathy Brunke Memorial Scholarship is available to any senior declaring the field of education in college, and has
maintained a B average through junior & senior year. Applications are in the College Room. Deadline: April 10, 2015.
The Lions Club of Crete Scholarship is available to seniors living in Crete. Applications available in the College Room.

Crete Woman's Club Scholarship is available to Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors living in Crete who would be
interested in a summer camp for Music, Athletics, Educational enrichment or Art. Pick up an application in the College

Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans Scholarship is available to seniors who are of full/50% Italian ancestry check.

having you visit and play board games with them. Brookdale Plaza is located in Olympia Fields on Vollmer Road.
