Columbia University Department of Physics Theory Seminar “An IR Perspective on Effective Lagrangians for Nonlinear Sigma Models” Long ago Coleman, Callan, Wess and Zumino (CCWZ) constructed the nonlinear sigma model lagrangian based on the coset G/H. I discuss how CCWZ lagrangian can be (re)derived using nonlinear shift symmetries. The resulting lagrangian only depends on how the Goldstone boson transforms under the unbroken group H in the IR, and is universal among all possible G in the UV.
