“An IR Perspective on Effective Lagrangians for
Nonlinear Sigma Models”
Long ago Coleman, Callan, Wess and Zumino (CCWZ) constructed the nonlinear
sigma model lagrangian based on the coset G/H. I discuss how CCWZ lagrangian
can be (re)derived using nonlinear shift symmetries. The resulting lagrangian only
depends on how the Goldstone boson transforms under the unbroken group H in
the IR, and is universal among all possible G in the UV.
