It has been a custom to practice fasting or self denial. Matthew 6:1-6; When you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret. In order to prepare our body and mind for Lent it might be appropriate to cleanse ourselves of hurt and anger toward others who have offended us. It might be a time to “mend fences” and cleanse our minds to open ourselves for new growth and understanding. Life has a way of putting obstacles in our path with misunderstandings which can cause hurt, even heartbreak. This is a time to reflect, forgive and open our minds for forgiveness and peace. There are those we know who are suffering and hurting for multiple reasons. Stephen Ministers are caring and understanding members of our church trained to be good listeners and follow a confidential ministry. If you know of anyone who might want to talk with a Stephen Minister, call our Stephen Minister Leader, Sara Jenkins, 705-2172. Each week, there is a STEPHEN MINISTER from BUMC assigned to hospital duty. If you hear of anyone in the hospital this week, March 29 – Apr 4, please call Sara Jenkins, 705-2172.
