St James’s Church, Lower Hutt, was crowded this afternoon, on the occasion of the marriage of Mr Wm. Henry Russell, a popular member of the
Hansard staff, to Miss Clara Eleanor Laery, eldest daughter of Mr Robert Laery, one of Wellington’s prominent citizens. The ceremony was performed
by the Rev W. C. Waters, of St Peter’s, Wellington, assisted by the Rev Joshua Jones, of St James’s, Lower Hutt. The bride, who was given away by
her father, was charmingly dressed in white satin, trimmed with rich lace, with vest of applique embroidered. The bridesmaids were Misses Von, Ivy,
and Ada Laery (sisters of the bride), and Miss Blow (niece of the bridegroom), each of whom wore figured muslin, sashes of white watered ribbon, and
hats of white drawn chiffon. The duties of best man were discharged by Mr Charles Robinson, solicitor, of Masterton. Messrs J. Ewan Smith and John
Holmes, of the Treasury, acted as groomsmen. As the bridal party left the church a “Wedding March” was played by Miss Manning. At the conclusion
of the service the wedding party drove to Willowbank, Mr and Mrs Laery’s residence at the Hutt, where an “At Home” was held. Afternoon tea was
served in a large marquee on the lawn. Mr and Mrs Russell left shortly afterwards on their honeymoon, which is to be spent in the North. The bride’s
travelling dress was of plum coloured cloth, with a vest of maize silk trimmed with lace, and she wore a hat to match with violets and black ostrich tips.
The bridegroom’s present to the bride was an opal and diamond brooch and a gold necklace, and he received from the bride a gold signet ring. The
presents received by Mr and Mrs Russell included a valuable silver-mounted oak tea tray from the bridegroom’s comrades on the Hansard staff.
