Intermediate Biologist Kamloops and Barriere, BC THE COMPANY Estsek’ Environmental Services LLP (Estsek’) is an environmental firm which provides a full range of environmental services to clients primarily in the North Thompson region. Estsek’ offers scientific, technical, and management experience and expertise to deliver practical environmental solutions to clients in the resource industries. Estsek’s multi-disciplinary team comprises environmental professionals specializing in aquatic and terrestrial biology, environmental assessment, environmental monitoring, and resource management. Estsek’ is a Limited Liability Partnership formed between Simpcw Resources LLP (SRLLP) and Triton Environmental Consultants Ltd. and has offices in Barriere and Kamloops, BC. THE OPPORTUNITY Estsek’ has an opportunity for an Intermediate Biologist to support a wide range of project work within the North Thompson region. The Intermediate Biologist leads the completion of project work in cooperation with a Project Manager. They are experts and mentors in field techniques and the standards necessary for conducting surveys in a variety of service sectors including but not limited to: water quality, fisheries inventory, wildlife assessments and environmental monitoring. Primary responsibilities will include field assessments, as well as providing office support for literature reviews, data entry and analysis, and report writing. He/she leads the compilation of data and ensures data quality, completes data analysis and reviews basic reports or leads the completion of reports in cooperation with the Project Manager. It is desired that the individual has an area of expertise (e.g. fisheries assessments), and a portion of their time is spent mentoring others in this expertise. The Intermediate Biologist assists with proposal writing and the budgeting of projects, and has regular interactions with the client’s representative as part of building and maintaining client relations. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position administered through SRLLP. There is an expectation that the candidate will work out of the offices in Kamloops and Barriere, as required, as well as travel between field sites. Qualifications: Relevant degree (e.g., B.Sc.) or 2 year diploma plus relevant experience 10 years of experience in the environmental industry Professional designation or eligibility to obtain designation upon start of employment with: o College of Applied Biology (CAB) R.P.Bio., RBTech; o The Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB) P.Biol.; o The Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) AScT; o The Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) RPF; o The College of Alberta Professional Foresters (CAPF) R.P.F., or R.F., or P.For.; o The British Columbia Institute of Agrologists (BCIA) P.Ag.; or o The Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA) P.Ag. Advanced technical knowledge in a specialized area (e.g. fish, wildlife) Relevant technical certification (e.g. Electrofishing) Relevant safety certification (e.g. First Aid, Swiftwater Rescue, SVOP, ATV Safety, H2S Alive) Experience in writing proposals and work plans for clients Experience in species identification and habitat description relevant to the positions (e.g. fish, wildlife) Experience with field data collection according to best practices and relevant government standards Experience as an environmental monitor on construction sites, including erosion and sediment control Experience leading complex data analysis (including statistics) Intermediate to expert with standard desktop software (e.g. MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access) General Ability to anticipate problems before they arise Ability to work independently, manage time and workload efficiently to ensure projects or tasks are completed on time; well organized Detail oriented, with a high degree of accuracy when working with data Physically fit and capable of doing field work Builds effective interpersonal relationships and has an ability to work well with others on the team creating a positive and productive work environment Strong desire to work in a team setting Strong leadership skills (mentoring, coaching, leading) Strong problem solver able to address challenges with effective solutions that improve systems and/or relationships Strong written and verbal communication abilities Ensures all work is conducted in an ethical and prudent manner Ability/willingness to travel to field sites and between office locations Experience with operating boats, quads or side-by-sides, snowmobiles Valid Class 5 drivers licence HOW TO APPLY: If this opportunity sounds like you, and you are serious about joining a progressive team of environmental professionals, please email us your resume and cover letter and quote the competition number in the subject line.
