ABSTRACT ART COLLECTIVE NEWSLETTER • APRIL, 2015 • Reception: Friday April 3, 5–7pm “Multivision” at TVSB. • Takedown: Saturday April 18, noon - 2pm, “Reflection” at the Meisel Gallery. • See Page 7 for a printable ingathering info sheet for the Faulkner May AAC/SBSG Exhibition NOTES FROM THE 2015 CHAIR Sales are not the only measure of success when considering exposure and since it does not cost the group much to exhibit at Karpeles, it remains a venue to consider for the future. THE NEWLY REDESIGNED AAC WEB SITE GOES LIVE! Please visit the exciting new AAC web site at: abstractartcollective.com. We have currently sold one piece from the Meisel exhibit. Rica Coulter’s monoprint/collage sold at the reception. Our next goal is to have full participation of membership so that site viewers see a sampling of artwork from every Jan Ziegler TVSB EXHIBITION member. Our team, Marlise Senzamici The TVSB exhibit is beautiful. 29 (webmaster) Lee Anne Dollison (web members submitted work and all had at least one images) and Jan Ziegler (general assistant), are piece accepted. 54 pieces are in the show. Nancy prepared to help members take photos, make jpgs Gifford gave a lot of thought to the show layout, and edit brief artist statements for those who need grouping artworks that “spoke to each other” and help. Instructions will be sent by email regarding pairing pieces with the colorfully painted walls. format for images and statement. The new web site’s main purpose is to promote AAC exhibitions and membership and to represent the group as a whole. It is not meant as a replacement for having a personal artist’s web site. ART SALES We expected sales to be weak at the Karpeles, due to their rules forbidding prices to be posted on the artwork and we have not sold one piece there, yet. However, Nancy Gifford, juror of the TVSB show and Vice president of the Arts Fund, said that she views the Karpeles as a good venue for the AAC because of the respect it has in the community as well as providing us with 1st Thursday reception exposure. Both Karpeles receptions were well attended and I agree with her assessment. Because TVSB is not well known as an art venue, we plan to advertise in CASA Magazine and either the Independent or the Friday News Press. By advertising, we hope to have more viewers visit the show not only at the reception, but during the 2 months after the reception, when parking will be more available in the rear lot. LIVE JURY DAYS 2015 The AAC will be jurying in new members on April 11, 2015 and Oct 11, 2015. Be sure to inform any of your artist friends who may want to join. Our new method of jurying in members requires three pieces of artwork to be delivered and placed in front of a panel of three judges. Email Maria Miller for the pdf detailing the new procedure: [email protected] PAGE (1) April 2015 PAUL KLEE, MAN OF MYSTERY, JOY AND REVOLUTION Maria Miller submitted an article for publication in the AAC newsletter this month.
