Summer Food Safety Tips
Summer is almost here which brings cook-outs, potlucks, picnics, and eating on the beach.
Remember that safe food is healthy food, and healthy food means a healthier you!
Keep hot foods hot, and cold foods cold. Hot foods should be kept above 140°F and cold foods
less than 40°F. Use a thermometer to be exact.
Transport foods safely. Use ice packs or frozen water bottles in insulated lunch bags or coolers
when traveling with food. Freeze the bread from your sandwich to keep it colder for longer.
Keep your eye on the clock. Don’t eat perishable foods that have been sitting out for more than
2 hours. On days hotter than 90°F, the safety zone is 1 hour.
Avoid spreading bacteria. Use different utensils and serving dishes for raw foods and cooked
foods. Washing your hands with soapy and water is best, but bring hand sanitizer when you’re on
the go.

Frozen Greek Yogurt – Is It Good For You?
With the warmer weather approaching, frozen desserts sound pretty appealing.
So, how does frozen Greek yogurt rank? There can be a “health halo” around
these products, but remember that most frozen treats, including frozen Greek yogurt,
need to enjoyed in moderation.
Looking at the two products below, you can see that the Yasso bar is much lower in calories, fat,
and sugar than Ben & Jerry’s. Plus it is already portion-controlled. Keep in mind, one pint of Ben
& Jerry’s has 4 ½-cup servings so you need to scoop out your own portion.
What’s the best option? Freeze your own Greek yogurt! A 6-ounce container of plain, non-fat
Greek yogurt (Fage, Chobani, Oikos) contains ~100 calories, 0g fat, 7g sugar, and 18g protein.
