PLEASE consider whether YOU can help……..
Until recently mums and their young offspring met in the
Fellowship Rooms (glass rooms at the back of the church) for
‘Bumps, Babes and Toddlers’ on Tuesday and Friday mornings,
from 10am-12pm, in school term times. Kenton Pre-School,
who organise this, would love to continue these valuable
sessions from the new term in September (and so would we!)
but are, at present, unable to find anyone who can regularly
open and close up the rooms in preparation. Are there any
ladies in our church family who would be willing to be an
‘aunty’ and undertake this duty now and again on a rota basis?
Please speak to Ceri to register your interest or for further
information.
Leo Burton – update
Leo has just had two
extended stays in
hospital including
surgery. He's now
enjoying some time at
home before chemo
starts again and he
heads to the USA for
about three months
for proton therapy
at the end of June, with his mum (Abby), his dad (James) and
his sister (Hattie). The fundraising campaign is mainly focused
on supporting Leo to have his family with him during his
treatment, Leo will require further surgery and lifelong
monitoring of his health. Some of the money may also be put
towards paying for a specialist carer to look after Leo
occasionally so James and Abby can both take Hattie out on
her own for a few hours, something they haven’t been able to
do since this all started due to Leo’s compromised immunity.
Any remaining money will be divided between a trust fund for
Leo for ongoing health needs and to give something back to
the hospitals or charities that have been (and still are)
supporting the family during this awful time for them. For more

back of the church if you would like to make a donation.

which will be open for teas, coffees etc. 2.45-4.15pm.
Delicious homemade cakes to eat in or take away.
All proceeds to ‘Hands on for Leo’ - the Leo Burton fund
(see previous column for more information).
If you like baking then any donations of homemade cakes
will be very welcome! Bring them to the church anytime
after 9am on the day or to 7 Orchard Way the day before.
Another date for your diary
Thank you to Rita Sculpher who recently held a very
enjoyable fundraising Body Shop Party evening at her
home. Both church funds and Leo Burton’s fund
benefitted from the hostess commission made on the
evening. It was such a success that Rita is now
organising another one! This time it will be held in the
Fellowship Rooms (the glass rooms at the back of
church) on Wednesday 29th July starting at 7pm.
Come to enjoy wine, nibbles and a chat whilst
browsing the ethically-made make up, skincare and
fragrance products on display. All proceeds will be split
50:50 between church funds and ‘Hands On for Leo’
Today’s Reading
from 2 Corinthians 4:13 -5:1
4 13 But just as we have the same spirit of faith that is in
accordance with scripture—‘I believed, and so I spoke’—we
also believe, and so we speak, 14 because we know that the
one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with
Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence. 15 Yes,
everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to
more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the
glory of God. 16 So we do not lose heart. Even though our
outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being
renewed day by day. 17 For this slight momentary affliction
is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all
measure, 18 because we look not at what can be seen but
at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary,
but what cannot be seen is eternal.
5 1 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is
destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made
with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Today’s Gospel from Mark 3.20-35

3 20 And the crowd came together again, so that they
could not even eat. 21 When his family heard it, they went
out to restrain him, for people were saying, ‘He has gone
out of his mind.’ 22 And the scribes who came down from
Jerusalem said, ‘He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the
demons he casts out demons.’ 23 And he called them to
him, and spoke to them in parables, ‘How can Satan cast
out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that
kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided
against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 And
if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he
cannot stand, but his end has come. 27 But no one can
enter a strong man’s house and plunder his property
without first tying up the strong man; then indeed the
house can be plundered. 28 ‘Truly I tell you, people will be
forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they
utter; 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit
can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal
sin’— 30 for they had said, ‘He has an unclean spirit.’
31 Then his mother and his brothers came; and standing
outside, they sent to him and called him. 32 A crowd was
sitting around him; and they said to him, ‘Your mother
and your brothers and sisters are outside, asking for you.’
33 And he replied, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’
34 And looking at those who sat around him, he said,
‘Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does
the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.’
Weekly News
Prayer for the Week
O God, who called all life into being, the earth, sea and
sky are yours. Your presence is all around us every
atom is full of your energy. Your Spirit enlivens all who
walk the Earth; with her we long for justice to be done,
for creation to be freed from bondage, for the hungry to
be fed, for captives to be released, for your reign of
peace to come on Earth. Amen.
