TODAY WE WELCOME
Funeral of Violet Vallance (Wendy’s
mum) at Torquay Crematorium
who helped in any way with
our activities at Kenton May
Day Celebrations last Monday.
It was a truly joyous village
event with a lovely atmosphere.
Despite the wet weather later in
the afternoon we still raised
£128 for church funds.
We had sold out of cakes by
2pm and the youngsters from
the Chat Café lost count of how many ‘rats’ were
‘splatted’! Some of you may already have heard that
unfortunately, through no-ones fault, the church
marquee was later damaged in the windy weather
overnight – we are grateful to Kenton Primary School
Parents’ Association, who had borrowed the
marquee for the occasion, as they are now busily
fundraising for a replacement and have already
embarked on this project as one which will ultimately
benefit the whole Kenton community.
If you would like to know how you can contribute
please speak to Ceri.

13 May 1915 when his ship
HMS Goliath was sunk

Past & Present display in the church and do listen
out for the toll of the church bells this week, on the
13th (Wednesday), in Walter’s memory.

The Friends of St Thomas Church are raising funds
by holding this event at ‘Brinshill’. This spectacular
garden can be found opposite Mamhead Village Hall.
12.30-4.30pm each day, £4 entry per person.
More info available on the table at the back of the
church or go to: www.mamhead.com
CHRISTIAN AID WEEK
If you are able, PLEASE HELP
in the delivery (and collection
by 16 May) of the Christian Aid Week envelopes to
households in the village. These envelopes are ready
for distribution and can be found on a table at the
back of church. Please return the collected
envelopes to the churchwardens or the treasurer.
Prayer for the Week
Help us love each other as we love ourselves. May the
Holy Spirit, who has poured Your love into our hearts,
give us Your selfless love, for our love falls far short
of the mark. Amen.

Weekly News
Acts 10:44-48 Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit
Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell
upon all who heard the word. 45 The circumcised
believers who had come with Peter were astounded
that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even
on the Gentiles, 46 for they heard them speaking in
tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, 47 ‘Can
anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people
who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?’
48 So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several
days.

John 7:37-44 Rivers of Living Water
37 On
the last day of the festival, the great day, while
Jesus was standing there, he cried out, ‘Let anyone
who is thirsty come to me, 38 and let the one who
believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, “Out of
the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.”’
39 Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in
him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit,
because Jesus was not yet glorified.
40 When they heard these words, some in the crowd
said, ‘This is really the prophet.’ 41 Others said, ‘This is
the Messiah. But some asked, ‘Surely the Messiah
does not come from Galilee, does he? 42 Has not the
scripture said that the Messiah is descended from
David and comes from Bethlehem, the village where
David lived?’ 43 So there was a division in the crowd
because of him. 44 Some of them wanted to arrest him,
but no one laid hands on him.
