Hello KCBS Team!
Thanks for your interest in participating in our “Almost Heaven BBQ Bash” in Buckhannon, WV the
weekend of June 19-20. We look forward to welcoming you to our town for a great event, which also
celebrates West Virginia’s Birthday on Saturday, June 20th.
We’re proud to be the only KCBS Sanctioned BBQ Competition in the state, making this the WV State
BBQ Championship—earning the WV Grand Champion an automatic entry to the Jack Daniels
Invitational and American Royal Competition—no need to hold your breath for your name to
be called in a random drawing – you’re IN if you WIN in WV!
Although we’re planning a car/motorcycle show, some bluegrass/country music, and
several other family activities to attract people to the downtown area—it’s about BBQ and YOU!
We’ll also be holding a Sunny Buck BBQ Challenge for the non-pro BBQ teams and a separate
contest for our fellow Rotary Clubs to test their BBQ skills, but YOU are the stars of this event!
We’re also tickled to have Rusty & Julie Cook of Stone Mountain, GA, as our KCBS reps, and have
been working with them to make this an event you’ll want to return to every year! We also welcome
“your” suggestions, ideas, and even your pet peeves about other events so we can make ours the
best it can be!
Hopefully, the following information will answer all or most of your questions with more details and
updates as we get closer to the event date! Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have other
questions in the meantime.

Cook Sites: We’ve secured 4 level, paved parking areas in our downtown area within a 2-3 minute
walk from the Judging area. Team sites will be assigned based on your space/electrical requirements.
Electric: There are a limited number of 50 AMP spots, and others with standard electrical hookups. Spaces, with specific electrical needs, will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis—the
sooner we receive your entry form, the better chance we have to provide the ideal spot to meet
your needs.
Water/Ice: Water will be available for each spot, sanitary facilities will be located in the team cooking
area, and ice will be available with your first bag “free” and a nominal charge for additional bags.
Gray Water/Grease Disposal: We are working on arrangements for local disposal of these, and will update
you in the coming weeks. At this time, however, you should plan on handling disposal of this waste on your
own.
Ash & Trash: Trash receptacles will be located throughout the cook’s areas, & metal ash cans will
be provided.
KCBS Team / Cook’s Schedule
Arrival/Set-Up: Since we are utilizing some parking areas for downtown offices, we will do our best to accommodate
your arrival time, with most set-up areas ready by 9 AM, Friday, June 19th (some may be available on Thursday or
earlier Friday). Please let us know your “projected” arrival time so we can plan properly.
Meat Inspection: Begins at 10 AM Friday, 6/19 and continues until all teams have been checked
and approved.
Cook’s Meeting: 4:00 PM Friday, 6/19 – Ballroom of Buckhannon Moose Lodge (2-3 min. walk from sites)
Judging / Turn-In Times (as recommended by KCBS): Saturday, June 20, 2015

1:30 PM
Chicken
Ribs
Pork
Brisket
Awards Ceremony: 5:00—5:30 PM — Jawbone Park (2-3 min. walk from cook’s area)
People’s Choice Contest: Although not required, we hope you will participate in our People’s Choice Contest as
there are no BBQ specialty restaurants in our town, and attendees will be anxious to taste some serious BBQ! We
will provide 1-2 pork butts per team (depending on the number of teams participating), then pick those up after
the KCBS judging is complete. Our volunteers will prepare and label samples for the public to taste and judge ...
money and awards are on the line! You cook ‘em, and we’ll do the rest!
BBQ Tour Stop: Share some of your BBQ wisdom, tips, or recipes with the public by offering a short 15-20
presentation at your cook site. See the entry form for more details.
Selling Your BBQ: We are working with the local Health Dept. to make arrangements for those of you who might
wish to sell your BBQ to the public following the compeititon. So far, they’re being very cooperative, but we need
to confirm a couple details to assure everything runs smoothly. Let me know if you are interested in that option,
and I’ll send further details to you very soon.
Misc.: The event site is located in our downtown area near restaurants and shopping with Wal-Mart, Lowe’s and
other stores within a 3-5 minute drive. The City is also hosting an Arts on Main Open House that weekend which will
attract even more visitors while offering your families some fun things to do while you’re cooking. We’ll send more
area and event information after you’ve registered.
We are blessed to have the full support of our Mayor and City Government, the WV Division of Tourism and WV
Department of Agriculture, as well as area businesses and other groups who are excited about this new event.
If you have any questions, need additional information, or have comments or suggestions, we’d love to hear from
you. More importantly, we hope to add you to our list of professional BBQ teams for the “Almost Heaven BBQ Bash”.
Hope to see you in June in West Virginia!!!
