Bible Message p.2
Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me.
It’s a saying often heard but seldom realized clearly.
People in Profile p.3
Can the word touch my heart? What is my perception?
Am I lifted up or down when words come in my direction?
Humor and Holidays p.4
“Yes” and “No” is my response. It all depends on me.
I can choose what words to hold or which to let go freely.
Words are seeds or words are weeds. Which do I want to seek?
Words are mine to use and share. May truth and love I speak.

The Message: Seeing Our Blind Spots
HEALING WORDS
Please read John chapter 9
Rev. Linda Russell-Hawes
The Story
Jesus used the power of his words to teach, to
heal, and to re-connect humanity back to Source,
God. He continually affirmed his divinity and
preached that we too are divine through our Godgiven inheritance. The common people adored
him but the spiritual leaders of the Jewish
community, scribes, Pharisees and Sanhedrin
who directed the affairs of the church saw Jesus
as a rebel rouser and a fake. Jesus constantly
kept himself grounded in Spirit. When words of
hatred came to defy his Sonship, He affirmed his
Divinity and replied to his enemies with words of
deep truth and with love.
The complete chapter nine in the book of John is
devoted to showing this struggle between words
of truth and words of defiance. Jesus
purposefully healed a man blind from birth. The
normal reaction of everyone should have been
one of praising God; however, church officials
came to the man demanding that he not only tells
them who healed him, but also to call Jesus a
“sinner”. Why? To discredit Jesus as the Jewish
long-awaited Messiah… the one who would give
proof that he had God’s authority by casting out
demons, giving sight to the blind, raising the
dead, healing the lame and teaching God’s
mercy.
The healed man is now confronted by the church
officials. “Give God the glory. We know that this
Man is a sinner” they say. And the man replies,
“Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know.
One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I
see…this is a marvelous thing that you do not
know where He is from and yet He has opened
my eyes… since the world began it has been
unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one
who was born blind. If this Man were not from
God, He could do nothing.” In speaking these
words of honesty and faith, the church
excommunicated him! (Read the rest of the
story.)
How many times do we hear people speaking
against those who are doing something
wonderful for God’s glory? They are blind. And
how many times do we ourselves miss the
revelation in our lives? We hold onto our
perception of how things should be done through
a particular place or person. Are we blind when
our Creator offers us a gift?
Stay Connected and Prayed Up
It is only through prayer and centering in our
spiritual place that we are healed of our own blind
spots. It is through declaring daily words such as:
Today, I speak words of blessing. I praise
God as I release my faith and let go of doubt.
My eyes are open to my good.
Give Your Words Power.
We include a colored Post It note. Write down
your own strong words of affirmation and place
them on your bathroom mirror. See how
effectively your written words build faith and look
for the blessings in your life as you embed words
of truth into your subconscious mind. A blessed
summer to you all!

People in Profile
Love in our midst hearing calls for help.
A Homeless Man Saves Baby’s Life.
A pregnant mother in labor had an emergency
stop giving birth in the back seat of her car at a
truck stop. The baby girl emerged not breathing,
the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. The
husband yelling for help saw a bearded,
unshaven man appear. He had been thumbing a
ride when he heard the frantic cries.
While other bystanders seemed frozen, the
stranger moved quickly into position to free the
cord. By some miracle of knowledge, he began to
massage the baby’s back and she gasped
oxygen. He spoke with the 911 and was given
instruction how to cut and tie off the umbilical
cord.
Getting Connected Through Word Power
In The Five Keys to Life Through the Eyes of a
Mystic Marjorie H. Russell writes, “Gurdjieff and
Ouspensky felt that
humanity
is
disconnected from its
conscious awareness
of God’s spiritual
reality that contains
peace and plenty.
They referred to this
mental
state
of
humanity as being
‘asleep.’
Gurdjieff
complained: ‘We are not properly conscious. We
act mechanically.’” Marjorie states that
consciousness is not identical with life, for the
peace and light of life energy will not produce
consciousness in and of itself. We need to fully
awaken to God within - even as Christ taught us.
From Gary Zukav- Soul Stories
The man, Gary, offered words of confidence and
kindness. He was given a free meal and a free
overnight at the truck stop, while baby, mother,
and father, went on to the hospital.
What a story she will tell when she is older! Her
father’s yelling for help; the stranger’s calm voice
and actions; her mother hearing her take her first
breath and cry.
“Doing what you think will please others moves
you farther away. How can you be close to
someone when you don’t feel that you can be
who you are around him or her? Harmony comes
from sharing who you are, letting others share
who they are and learning how to do that
together. When everyone thinks the same way,
and wants the same things, this is easy. But what
about those times when you are with people who
want what you do not, or think differently than
you? Do you want to create harmony with them?
Your soul does”.
The gifts of words that console and that give
compassion come in various colors and flavors.
“When you do it to the least of these, you do it for
me.” (Jesus Christ)
