Angela Ellsworth Volume I Feb 3 - Apr 10, 2015 Artist Talk and Opening Reception: Feb 5, 2015 from 5-7pm Chroma (Red for Derek Jarmen). Graphite powder, silkscreened pigment, archival wax on cardboard, 12.25” X 15.25” (framed), 2013. Image courtesy of the artist and Lisa Sette Gallery, Phoenix, AZ. The artist talk will be held from 5-6pm in the Art Building, room 312 immediately followed by a reception in the Joseph Gross Gallery . Volume I is a solo exhibition of works examining the texture of history and memory. It features a selection of subtle objects, some in the form of cardboard boxes, and hardback book casings. Rubbed arduously and repeatedly with graphite, the interiors of boxes become velvety and reflective. This treatment brings to light both the stark geometrical architecture, and the essential emptiness and latent potential of these containers. Angela Ellsworth is a multidisciplinary artist interested in the transitory moments where public and private meet by chance in unpredictable occurrences. Ellsworth’s work has exhibited nationally and internationally at institutions including The Getty Center, Los Angeles; National Review of Live Art, Glasgow, Scotland; Zacheta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw, Poland; and Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia. This exhibition is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Dr. Joseph F Gross Endowment, Lionel Rombach Endowment, the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona School of Art.
