Mother/Daughter Breakfast

March 21, 2011
Dear Parents of Seniors:
As the 2010-11 academic year draws to a close, we are excited to celebrate the conclusion of
your daughter’s high school life. This time is bittersweet for us as we have to bid her farewell.
We are so proud of the Assumption High School Class of 2011, and we will miss their
enthusiasm, their compassion, and their dedication to everything they do. We know that you are
proud of them also.
We have several special events planned for this celebration and farewell. Included with this
letter, is a list of those events and necessary instructions for each. Also included is a form for
reservations for the Mother/Daughter Breakfast that needs to be completed and returned to your
daughter’s homeroom teacher or the main office NO LATER THAN MONDAY, APRIL 11.
Our graduation ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 21, at Bellarmine University Knights
Hall at 11:00 a.m. This venue will accommodate 10 guests per graduate. Each senior will
receive 10 tickets of admission to graduation in their homeroom the week of April 18.
Also included in this mailing is a letter from our Dean of Students Cindi Baughman with details
about prom which will be held on Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Gillespie.
Congratulations on your daughter’s accomplishments. We know that this is a happy and exciting
time for them and you. We look forward to seeing you at these special events.

Frequently Asked Questions
Assumption High School Graduation
May a graduate have her nose pierced or have a tatoo after her final exams?
In respect for the dignity of our graduation ceremony and events, we ask that our graduates refrain from having any
piercings (or than ears) or tatoos visible. They should abide by the general school policies through the conclusion of
our graduation ceremony on May 21.
How many tickets will each graduate receive and why is there no general admission? Is there a way that we can
obtain additional tickets?
The number of tickets is limited to ten (10) for each graduate because of the seating limitations of Knights Hall. We
want to ensure that our guests have seating available. If a graduating senior’s family needs more than ten (10)
tickets, parents may ask for unused tickets from other graduates or contact Carla Hogue (458-9551 or
[email protected] ), Administrative Assistant to the President, to request tickets which have been returned
because they will not be used.
Why do the graduates have to wear white shoes? What are the restrictions?
The graduation cap and gown are white, and in keeping with the dignity of graduation and the unity of the class, all
graduates are required to wear white shoes. The white shoes may be sandals or close-toed, may be low- or highheeled, may have a leather or cork sole, or may have small embellishment of gold/silver or beading. The style
should be appropriate for a formal graduation ceremony.
Why do the graduates have to wear a white dress underneath their graduation gowns?
The graduation gowns are made of fairly thin white fabric that is easily seen through. Through experience, we know
that a solid white dress with little or no pattern looks best under the graduation gown. A white full-length slip is also
an option. In addition, a collarless dress fits better under the graduation gown and with the maroon stole. The
graduates should not wear shorts, capris, or pants because these also show under the lightweight fabric of the
graduation gown.
What should the graduates wear for each of the graduation events – Mother/Daughter Breakfast, Baccalaureate
Mass, and Senior Honors Assembly?
Typically, the seniors and their mothers wear dresses, skirts and tops, or dressier-style pants to the Mother/Daughter
Breakfast. For both Baccalaureate Mass and Senior Honors Assembly, the graduates must wear their white dress or
white slip, the graduation gown with the maroon stole, and white shoes. The graduation cap with tassel is worn only
at the graduation ceremony itself.
Why do the graduates have to arrive 30 minutes early for each of the graduation events?
Logistically, it takes time for 200 young women to line up in order for the procession for each event. This also
allows our faculty and staff time to check on those who are missing and to give final instructions and reminders.
Why don’t the graduates receive the program at Seniors Honors Assembly?
The graduates don’t receive the program before the assembly because the four (4) special awards -- Assumption
Alumnae Award, Rocket Parent Association Award, Rose Award, and Outstanding Christian Leadership Award -are announced at the end of the assembly for the first time to the Class of 2011. We hope that our parents and other
audience members will respect our wish that the announcement of these honors be a surprise to the recipients and
not pass along copies of the program to the graduates.
