ATCO SELECTED FOR MAJOR B.C. PROJECT

ATCO SELECTED FOR MAJOR B.C.
PROJECT
VANCOUVER, British Columbia–ATCO Structures & Logistics (ATCO) has been chosen
as the preferred proponent by BC Hydro to manufacture, install and operate a 1,600person workforce housing facility for workers constructing the Site C Clean Energy
Project on the Peace River in northeast B.C. ATCO will also provide a full suite of lodgerelated services including catering, janitorial, maintenance, medical and fire protection.
ATCO was chosen through a rigorous and competitive process involving a large group of
world-class bidders that ensured BC Hydro will receive best value for its project.
“Our ability to deliver a turn-key solution that covers both the building and operation of
large workforce facilities provides our customers with efficiencies and cost benefits,” said
George Lidgett, President, ATCO Structures & Logistics. “When combined with our
product quality and commitment to offering the best possible experience for workers at
remote sites, we set ourselves apart within our industry.”
When built, the lodge will feature a central lobby that will give the building an open, hotellike feel as well as a multi-faith centre, 100-person movie theatre and licensed lounge,
and a stand-alone gymnasium that will include a running track and separate weight
training area. To further enhance remote working conditions, services such as
physiotherapy, massage and hairdressing will also be available at the lodge.
Featuring single-occupancy bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, television and Wi-Fi
services, the custom-designed three-storey dormitories will reduce the lodge’s
environmental footprint. To service the site, ATCO will also build and maintain a
wastewater treatment plant.
ATCO has been providing modular solutions to some of British Columbia’s most
important infrastructure projects for more than 40 years including a 600-person
construction camp for the Kitimat LNG project and a 1,200-person facility for workers on
the Rio Tinto Alcan smelter modernization project.
A definitive agreement is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2015 and
ATCO will provide a project value at that time. Manufacturing work is expected to begin
once the agreement has been signed with an expected project completion in 2016. The
agreement will include the provision of catering, janitorial, maintenance and site services
until 2022.
