What are your future skating and educational goals? My favorite element is double flip. Most fun! Least favorite is double Lutz because no matter how hard I try I keep getting those edge calls. Double Axel (skating) Favorite program/music? Elvira Junnila Favorite word: Believe! It’s written on the sole of my skating boot. Least favorite word: Bully My plans are clear: I love art and my goal is to attend Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD). I also want to finish USFS test levels, get a coaching degree and work as a skating coach at least part time. Favorite food: Big fan of Chinese food, any type of noodles. I don’t really have a sweet tooth but I have a mouth full of teeth for Cheese Balls! Least favorite food: Shrimp, they even look like bugs! This season I will be competing on Juvenile level and Intermediate for short program. I LOVE my current Juvenile program. It is my all time favorite because the music is a medley from “Phantom of the Opera” by Lindsey Stirling so it’s a bit rock-ish version. I love my program’s choreography and I love my dress which is inspired by the costume from the masquerade scene in the movie. I started ballet when I was four. I still do four classes of ballet each week so I guess I would spend a lot more time at the dance studio. Whom do you admire most? Who is your favorite skater? Favorite song: right now “Uptown Funk” Finnish hockey player Teemu Selanne. He played a long career in the NHL and was selected MVP of the Sochi Olympics. The reason why I admire him is how he has given back. He has given his name to charity supporting Children’s Hospitals in Finland and his venues collect huge amounts of funds and he donates his own money to supply hospitals with expensive equipment. My family believes that there is a good chance I would not be here today without top quality hospitals like that. I stopped breathing two hours after I was born and spent the first few weeks in the ICU hooked to one of those machines. It would be cool to be able to meet Teemu Selanne one day and say Thanks! Gracie Gold because she is a beautiful skater but also beautiful inside: she has an animal rescue group called Gracie’s Heart of Gold. Favorite TV Show: “Love, Lust or Run” Most memorable event of your skating career? Regionals here in Atlanta. After few years of tears of disappointment me and my coach were crying tears of joy when I skated a clean program and placed fourth. If I weren’t a skater, I would have been Tell us something about yourself or your family that no one knows. What turns me off: Teasing - bullying - being mean Favorite quote: “If you can dream it - You can do it” ~Walt Disney Favorite Book: The Warrior Saga Favorite Movies: “Up” and “Phantom of the Opera” Favorite color: Every shade of PINK Sound I love: The rip! Blades crunching against the ice... Sound I dislike: The snap when you break a skate lace We were all born in Finland, are still Finnish citizens and there are six different languages spoken among my family members. I would never want to be: Tax collector Who would you choose to play you in the movie of your life? My three favorite things: My skates, my pointe shoes, my piano, a white Baby Grand which my late Grandpa gave me. Tinker Bell! Because I’m copying her now for my short program in my fairy-dress and music from “Peter Pan.” If you could have one question answered, what would your question be? How to control your nerves in a competition? Three words that best describe me: Compassionate, loyal, creative Tell us about your school and extracurricular activities. I am an honor roll 7th grade student at River Trail Middle School. My favorite subject is Language Arts: I love writing. I sing in chorus and play piano. Animal Rights and Rescue are important to me. We try to help rescue groups as much as possible. Four dogs have found new (very spoiled) life with us. My family also supports charities for Children’s Hospitals. E L V I R A What famous person would you most like to meet? Taylor Swift. I love her music but her story inspires me. She was bullied and had hard time in middle school but found strength in her music. And look at her now!!! Best advice you have ever received. Cooking must be similar to skating: “Put your head down and work hard! Never wait for things to happen, make them happen for yourself through hard craft and not giving up.” ~Gordon Ramsay My family is most like the television show... “Fresh off the Boat” because we also have strange accents going on, weird habits from a different culture, and issues with language barrier. Example: when told to hang up the phone, dad lifts the receiver up in the air asking how high... Tell us about your family. I have a 15-year old big brother Oliver who plays ice hockey, tennis and dives with a high school team. Our family also has some four legged members: Brownie, a miniature Dachshund, Cookie, a Cheweenie, Biscuit, a toy Rat Terrier, and Annie, our latest rescue dog, a Jack Russell we nurtured back to health last year. I have a hamster named Pink and my brother has a Bearded Dragon lizard named Zen. If I were stranded on a desert island, I would have to have: Swiss army knife, first aid kit for playing with the knife, and a Genie in a bottle to fill my three wishes... 9 April, 2015 8th Annual Ice Dance Weekend The Atlanta Figure Skating Club is pleased to host the 8th annual Ice Dance Weekend at The Cooler in Alpharetta, GA on June 5 - 7.
