Here are some of our accomplishments from 2014 that we achieved with your help: Help for Abused and Neglected Children Put the spotlight on the crisis in Child Protective Services and brought research, best practices, and policy solutions to the table. Stronger Families Convinced lawmakers to lift the freeze on child care vouchers so more working families have safe and affordable child care. Improved family stability with implementation of the new monthly stipend for children being raised by their grandparents. Turned up the volume on the voices of children and families and foster parents through major community forums in Phoenix and Tucson and ongoing media communications. Defeated tax and budget proposals that would have tied the hands of future legislators for action on children’s health, education, and security. Led the campaign to bring child abuse and neglect prevention strategies into reform plans and the new Department of Child Safety. Health Care for Children and Families Promoted streamlined procedures in three state agencies to make it easier for young adults transitioning out of foster care to enroll in health care coverage. Connected more than 18,000 families to affordable health coverage through the Kids Health Link outreach and application assistance. Connecting People to Policy Empowered more than 100 grandparents who are raising their grandchildren with a statewide summit, practical resources, and connection to state policymakers. Created a Young Adult Leadership Board to champion better policies and opportunities for young adults who are transitioning out of foster care. Trained child advocates through the 2014 CAA Leadership Academy. Information and Training Published “Arizona KIDS COUNT Data Book” to educate policymakers and community members on conditions for children statewide and county by county. Launched Opportunity Passport™ to offer financial training, education, and matched savings to young adults who have transitioned out of foster care. Informed policy makers about consequences and options for Arizona tax and budget policy through fact sheets and advocacy. Drew national and statewide attention to the negative impact of losing KidsCare through a research paper co-authored with the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families. Voter Education Briefed five gubernatorial campaigns on key children’s issues. Issued a questionnaire to legislative and gubernatorial candidates to get them on the record regarding issues important to children and families. Gave 14 legislative candidates a first-hand look at child nutrition and early childhood education by organizing visits to programs in their districts. Children’s Action Alliance, an independent voice for Arizona children at the state capitol and in the community, works to improve children’s health, education and security through information and action. Thank you to the thousands of donors and supporters who make our work possible.
