RECEPTION Summer Term 2015 Topics : Magic Gardens (1st half) and Transport(2nd half) Physical Development Personal, Social and Emotional Development In gym we will be working on transferring weight from different body parts. In games we will be practising bat and ball skills and we will be learning to skip. We will practise how to take part in a race or relay ready for sports day. Sports Day: Monday 13th July (am) We are still hoping to swim after half term if the pool is ready. If you might be able to help please do the parents resuscitation course on the 28th April. We need people trained on poolside with us ,as well as parents to help change and dry and children. We usually swim twice a week! We will be working on gardening skills this term using tools to weed, plant and sow. We will be watching our plants grow and taking care of them. Communication and Language & Literacy We will be having a daily phonics session revising sounds we have covered and learning to word build using two and three letter combinations. We will be reading a wide range of books, these will be fiction and information books. We will be practising our writing in various ways and doing lots of speaking and listening together. We will especially be practising asking and answering how and why questions. This term we will be working on growing up and our feelings. We will consider how to be kind and look after each other. We will consider what our bodies can do; understand how we have changed since we were babies; talk about how to look after our bodies and keeping lean as well as exploring our own and others’ feelings. We will also focus on plants and how they grow. We will also study minibeasts and some of their lifecycles. In RE we will be talking about looking after ourselves and our environment. Understanding the World Our first topic this term is Magic Gardens– looking at growing and minibeasts,. We will talk about plants growing and what they need– planting our own vegetables and flowers. We will also discover facts about minibeasts and their lifecycles. After half term we will be working on different forms of transport, what they are good for and how they work. In ICT we will be using Paint Programmes and programmable toys as well as developing further keyboard skills . Mathematics We will be working on numbers to twenty and beyond as well as learning to count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We will continue work on addition and subtraction skills as well as practising doubling, halving and general problem solving. We will be working on one more/ less from any given number. We will be sorting and matching, thinking about patterns and symmetry, as well as working with shapes, space and measures. We will continue work on telling the time and work with weights and capacity as well as money Expressive Arts and Design We will begin by making a class beanstalk ,do some weaving and painting then go on to make textured patterns and complete lots of observational drawings. We will be making masks and puppets while learning new joining techniques. We will have a baby clinic and then make a bus or a train for our role-play area. We will continue to develop our stage area ,developing our performance skills and begin to make and write our own music. We will be making textured art and modelling with clay. We will be using large building materials outside. BASSINGBOURN COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL EYFS HOMEWORK MENU—SUMMER TERM 2015 Ugly Bug Ball and Parade Wednesday 20th May Instead of homework this half term we ask that you help your child dress up for our ugly bug party. They could come dressed as any minibeast – butterfly, spider, ladybird or snail. Alternatively they could make up their own bug! We will be having a parade and some music and dancing to celebrate. Welcome back for a busy summer term with lots of exciting things happening. We hope you have had an enjoyable holiday and have eaten up all those chocolate eggs!! Topics: Magic Gardens and We will be taking all the reception children to The Nene Valley Railway on this date . We intend to look around the train museum, take a ride on a steam train and then have a picnic. More details will follow this half term. Build a model of a train or bus Can you make a model of a train or bus? Where might you drive or fly it ? Perhaps ask for some help to give it a proper working light! Transport Fathers’ Day outdoor tea Friday 19th June-pm We will be inviting all our Dads to join us for a picnic and den building afternoon to pre-empt Fathers’ Day. Last year we had a great afternoon with lots of Dads coming to help build dens and camps. We also played parachute games. The children even made and served them some tea ! More details to follow. Our Train Ride Wednesday 1st July HOMEWORK GALLERY Deadline for homework activities for transport topic to be brought into school from Monday 6th July. We will have an end of year sharing assembly and invite reception parents to come in on Wednesday 8th July (time to be confirmed). Make a collage of different forms of transport Cut out pictures from old newspapers and magazines. Maybe print them from the internet? How many different ones can you find? Make a list when you‘ve finished. Draw and label your favourite Design and label your favourite form of transport; one you would like to go on or invent one of your own and tell us how it works.
