new homes getting sucked into vortex - Glenda Vaughan

NEW HOMES GETTING SUCKED INTO VORTEX
A paper road sign has been drawn up to stop bills and confidential letters going to the wrong
addresses on Hereford’s newest street.
The problems began when 8 new homes were built in Newton Farm without a sign to alert postmen
and delivery drivers to the new development. This saw mail meant for the 8 new properties making
up Vortex Way ending up at the corresponding numbers of those living on the nearby Waterfield
Road. Residents blamed the postal mistakes on a lack of signage and fear a paper “Vortex Way” sign
tucked under an existing Waterfield Road sign will do little to clear up the misunderstandings. One
resident who moved into Vortex Way in December, says the confusion has led to her not receiving
gas payment cards as well as problems registering to vote. I phoned British Gas as soon as I moved in
to my new home, the first I heard from them was when I received a huge bill. That came here but
the payment cards before didn’t. “I now assume they were sent to the property in Waterfield Road
which has the same number as me”. On the other side of the coin is Zena Rees, who lives in the
neighbouring Waterfield Road and has received post meant for those living at the same number in
Vortex Way, which included mail from British Gas and some that were confidential. Neighbours have
had the same problem as well. “ I have gone down to the house on three occasions to deliver their
mail, they should have worked it out a lot better before they built the houses”. Keepmoat who built
the new homes, said a permanent solution to the problem will be installed within the next month.
Councillor Vaughan-Powell said: After the Hereford Times contacted me about this matter I
contacted Herefordshire Housing, Keepmoat and Herefordshire Council to have the street sign
installed, the signs were put up on Friday last week, one week after my intervention.
