Dear Parents and Carers
I have recently started at PLFC as Assistant Headteacher (Access and Inclusion) and I'm
already enjoying working with our students. As we reach the end of the school year, it's a good
opportunity to begin preparing for the best possible start to the new term in September.
As I'm sure you know, excellent attendance is crucial to excellent academic progress. Students
can't learn if they're not here and every student should aim for a minimum of 98% attendance.
Holidays are not permitted during term time. Students should also be on time to school every
day so that their learning and the learning of others isn't disrupted by late arrival to lessons.
Our uniform and banned items rules remain the same and from next term, staff will be extremely
vigilant in ensuring our students look smart and represent our school with pride. Our rules are
set out below. Students who aren't in correct uniform from the start of the new term will either be
sent home to change or will do their classwork in school in isolation from their peers. Banned
items will be confiscated on sight and will only be returned upon receipt of a note from home the
next day.
Girls
I.
Black skirt, which must fall to the knee, or black trousers of a tailored style.
2. White shirt style blouse, buttoned to the neck, normal collar.
3. School tie tied at the collar to at least the fourth button down on the shirt.
4. Black V-necked, plain knit jumper or cardigan with school badge.
5. Optional: black blazer with the school badge.
6. Black I White socks, ankle or knee-length, or plain black I flesh-coloured tights. No lace or
patterned tights.
7. Black, sensible leather shoes. No trainers, boots or canvas shoes of any colour.
8. Black or navy blue coloured outdoor coat when needed. No logos, badges or patterns. No
knitted cardigans, sweatshirts, hoodies or tracksuit tops.
Boys
I.
Black trousers, not jeans or cords.

Boys and Girls
I . No mobile phones or earphones are permitted in school: See it, Hear it, Lose it.
2. Hats I Caps must not be worn inside the school buildings at any time. In the winter, black
hats and scarves may be worn outside of the school building.
3. Hair ribbons, clips, etc. should be burgundy or black.
4. Only one small stud earring per ear allowed. No other facial piercings are allowed.
5. No other jewellery of any kind is permitted, e.g. rings, bracelets, necklaces.
6. Make-up must be discreet and only natural hair colour is permitted.
7. Scarves worn for religious reasons should be in college colours: black, white or red.
There should be no bandanas.
We will also be expecting all students to be properly equipped for all lessons, and they may
want to spend some time over the summer shopping for the following items:
. Two pens (blue or black)
. Pencil
. Ruler
. Scientific calculator
From September, there will be a new catering company providing healthy and nutritious meals
for our students. If your child has a packed lunch, please ensure it contains healthy food items
to compliment the food other students will be buying, and to enable your child to learn as
effectively as possible in lessons. There is clear evidence of the link between high levels of
effective concentration and healthy eating, and we're keen our students have every possible
opportunity to succeed in their work. Students will also be able to buy breakfast before school,
or if they take part in an educational activity a free breakfast will be provided.
We will also be making changes to our Behaviour Policy and the updated policy will be available
on the school's website from the start of September. There will be a new and more generous
rewards system and a new and more rigorous system to deal with poor behaviour. We will also
be carrying out more random searches of students (including the use of metal detection wands)
to ensure prohibited items are not brought into school. The new policy will be available on the
schools new website at the start of the academic year.
Finally: a reminder that the school day will start a little earlier from next term, at 8.30am; we're
looking forward to welcoming students for the first day of the new school year on 3rd September.
