A word from our Principal
This week we are celebrating Education Week and students
have been working on Numeracy activities based around the
theme ‘Crack the Code with Maths’ with an artistic twist.
Students have created artistic pieces that utilised their
mathematical knowledge and skills. Student work will be on
display at the Multi-Function Centre tomorrow. There will
be guided tours of the exhibition available over lunch.
Visitors to our 'exhibition' will need to crack the code to work
out what maths has been used for the art works. Also
tomorrow parents and friends are invited to join students for
activities in the classrooms between 12:30 and 1:30pm.

Interschool Chess Tournament/BHPS Superstars
Last Friday a number of our students attended an interschool chess tournament hosted by Bellarine
Secondary School. By all reports the children really enjoyed themselves. They competed against a range of age
groups over 7 games and apparently made quite a few friends while they were there. They also reportedly
learnt something new and increased their confidence.
The Barwon Heads team ended up coming a close 3rd to Geelong East Primary School who had a large
contingent of 2 teams and a well-developed chess program.
Georgia Borschmann, Ben Reid and Campbell Hutton (the youngest competitor in the competition!) came
within the top 25% of the field. A very talented and skilled Fin Hutton maintained a consistently strong focus
over the course of the day and achieved first place overall. Well done to all those who participated and for
Caroline Hutton for assisting on the day.
PREP Enrolments 2016
We are now taking enrolments for 2016. If you have a child who you wish to attend Barwon Heads Primary
School in 2016, please collect and return the necessary enrolment forms. These are available at the school
office. If you know of any other community member who may wish to enrol their child please feel free to
inform them also. We have already had many inquiries from the nearby areas and are very conscious of the
fact that our room availability and staffing will be significantly impacted by late enrolments.
School Council Reminder
Our monthly meeting is tonight at 6pm Thursday May 21st.
Thanks for another great week at BHPS – looking forward to sharing Education Week 2015.

Barwon Heads Community Bank® Branch have been up at the school every Thursday morning from
8.30am-9am to help sign some of our students to start their own school banking program.
Students who take part will receive a Piggy Banking Pack, which includes a Piggy Savings Treasure Map. Each
time your child makes a deposit they will receive a cool sticker or stamp, with little surprises each time they
reach ‘Piggy Island’. This will encourage our Bankers to keep coming back each week to make a deposit.
If you would like to get your little Banker involved with School Banking, there are three options:
In Branch: Bring the required identification for you and your child into Barwon Heads Community Bank®
Branch and open a Piggy Saver with the help of our friendly staff.
At School: Fill out an application form available from the office, then provide identification for the account
holder and parent/s who can sign on the account.
Identification required: Parents can provide a Driver’s Licence, children a Birth Certificate and Medicare
card.
We look forward to seeing you next Thursday! For further details please contact the Branch on Phone: 03

After School Care News
Barwon Heads Primary | 19th May 2015
Hi Everyone!
This week at OSHC again, the children have been busy with creating, designing, colouring and painting. There
has also been a new found love for creating bracelets! The letter bracelets have been especially popular! We
have been able to use the gym to play several group games such as tiggy, line tiggy, green light & red light,
soccer and last but not least basketball! There has been plenty of participation from everyone which is always
really good to see! We have also started to announce our buddy bear leaders for those who come to after
school care which has been very exciting!
We are still looking to organise some theme weeks, some of the themes are to be announced soon – starting
from next week the themes will be put into action with suggestion from the children.
Once again, Families please note that whislt we currently only provide after school care we are taking
expressions of interest for BEFORE SCHOOL CARE. We have had some more interest but we need a
couple more families to get involved so that we have the numbers to provide a before school care service.
Please let us know if you are interested so we can try and provide this service as soon as possible. You can let
us know by calling the OSHC phone (number is provided below) we are here Monday to Friday 2:30pm to
6:00pm. We would love to hear from you :)
If you have any questions please, feel free to call us on 0432 636 625.

WANT TO HELP BUT CAN’T COME IN TO THE CLASSROOM?
Teachers have jobs that need doing… and parents are helping; jobs that can even be done at home in front of
the telly!
Join the volunteers who are spending a little time helping to create the resources used in the classroom.
The more helpers, the less work. I don’t contact you directly, I just add the jobs to the Facebook group. You
only put up your hand when a job suits you.
Typically jobs are things like laminating, typing, photocopying, contacting, cutting and pasting (with oldfashioned scissors and glue)…
they are easy jobs for us to do, but time consuming for the teachers. Do you want to join “Teachers’ PAs”?
Send an email to Pip at [email protected]
