New General Election candidate announced
Steve Riley will be the Liberal Democrat
candidate for Broadland in the General
Election on May 7th.
Steve is Broadland District Councillor for
Aylsham. He is a proven election winner as
he won his Council seat off the
Conservatives two years ago in a by election
polling nearly four times as many votes as
the Labour candidate!.
Steve lives locally within the Broadland
constituency with his wife and family. He
has been prominent in campaigns such as
the old RAF Coltishall base for the benefit
of the community for many years.
Steve says “I am standing because I think
that Broadland needs a different kind of MP,
someone who puts people and our local
communities first before party politics.
When speaking to residents they often
say they are just not listened to, that
promises are made and then not acted
upon.’’

Broadland deserve better. An MP that
acts upon promises, an MP that is
active and seen to be active within our
communities. Broadland deserves a

no stone unturned in achieving the
best for individual residents and
communities here in Broadland and at

win in
Broadland
Pupil Premium Boost for our Schools
Liberal Democrats believe in giving every child a fair
start in life. The Pupil Premium was in the Liberal
Democrats 2010 election manifesto, and the Lib
Dems were able to incorporate it in the coalition
Negotiations. The Pupil Premium is paid by the
Government to schools and is targeted at the
children of lower income families who qualify for free
school meals. These children have previously been
lower achievers compared with their peers from a
less disadvantaged background.
Schools in our area have benefited from the
Pupil Premium to the tune of tens of thousands of
pounds in the 2014/15 financial year. The schools
can decide how the money is spent provided it is
used to help these disadvantaged children. This
can take various forms, for example; extra staff for 1
to 1 or group catch up sessions, counselling or
nurturing sessions, or for subsidising school
educational visits.
The results for these children show that the
intervention is working.

teachers in our area that this funding has been of real
benefit to the whole of the school they teach in as well
as individual children. Liberal Democrat policy is making
so much difference to children’s lives and to their future.’’
Free School Meals: Lib Dem policy on school meals
means that thousands of primary children in Norfolk now
receive a free nutritious lunchtime meal. Research shows
that providing free school meals has real benefits for
pupils’ attainment by improving concentration. It also
saves parents about £400 over a school year.

Economy rescued by Lib Dems
Thanks to tough decisions taken
by the Liberal Democrats in
government, the economy has
been turned around and is now
back to the size it was before
Labour’s disastrous economic
crash.

on creating apprenticeships
to help deliver a fair recovery.
