the changes coming to Aylsham are significant.
EDP 30th March 2015
Out and about in the town the one
issue raised above all else is the
impact of the large new housing
estates at Willow Park and Bure
Meadows.
People are asking: how many new
residents there will be; where will they
work; but above all, how will the
schools and doctors surgeries cope
as there is quite a wait to get appointments now ? Of course the extra
sporting and leisure facilities are
welcome, but at what cost to our
quality of life ?
David Harrison has consistently
opposed Broadland District Council's
plans for large new housing estates in
Aylsham. He says “I believe they will
provide little benefit to Aylsham
residents and the huge number of
houses will change the character of
the town for ever. But like it or not,
this new housing is coming and we
have to make the best of it. Lib Dems
will push for the expansion of the
town’s facilities to cope.”
Steve Riley says “The council
planners are failing us. Recently they
pushed through a development in
Broadland without adequate transport
provision, on the grounds that
residents could use the Northern

Distributor Road which has not yet
received planning permission.”
Based on his professional activities
Vic Morgan has long argued that
market towns like ours are at a
crossroads: current residents need to
have a voice in deciding what sort of
place they want Aylsham to be.
The Tories have encouraged these
developments, but Lib Dems do not
believe that Aylsham needs more
expensive homes, which risk turning
the town into a dormitory suburb for
Norwich. We need more affordable
housing and more housing with care
for older residents such as the Green
Lane View development at St
Michael’s. The Green Lane
development is a centre of excellence
used as a model for similar schemes
in other parts of Britain. David worked
closely with the Aylsham Care Trust to
get St Michael’s on track.
Steve and David have years of
experience in tackling problems in
Aylsham and the surrounding villages,
while Vic’s professional background
and experience in education is
invaluable. By voting for them on 7th
May you will be electing a formidable
team with a proven track record.
Steve’s 5 Pledges as a newly elected MP:
1
I will set up permanent satellite
surgeries nearer to you to give
better access and support for
residents in this huge constituency.
2
I will see residents face to face and
meet community groups and parish
councils on a regular basis,
especially when they need help in
tackling bureaucracy.
3
I will take immediate action to act
upon a number of key issues
already raised with me by parish
councils,residents, and community
groups.
“ Steve has the
experience of
working in and
with local government and the
knowledge and
ability to get the
best results for us
in Westminster . ”

4
I pledge to to campaign and work
for a change in the planning law
at Westminster to give residents,
community groups and parish
councils an equal right of appeal
as developers
5
I pledge not to be employed by
anyone else or self employed and
to be a full time hard working MP.
Only this way can I deliver on my
promises and you should expect
nothing less.
“ We need an MP who
won’t take ‘no’ for an
answer – we lost our
community hospital
when the local Conservatives abandoned the
fight . Steve would
never back off however
hopeless it looked.”
“ In our area it’s
always a close fight
between the Lib Dems
and the Conservatives. There’s no
chance Labour can
beat the Tories here,
and I know Steve will
put our interests first. ”

Why I Believe We Need
a Change to Planning Law
Steve Riley
Steve will always put people
first, be a full time hard working MP(no second job) supporting our communities.
Backing Labour or smaller
parties will just help the
Conservative candidate win
It’s really close in our area so
your vote could make all the
difference.
One big issue that has affected parish
councils, residents and our local communities across Broadland is planning.
At the moment If a developer is refused
planning consent by Broadland District
Council they have the right to appeal to the
higher authority of the National Planning
Inspectorate. However if the developer’s
plan was accepted by Broadland, the parish
councils and residents have no such right.
This is unjust and not a level playing field
and lays at the heart of many planning
decisions that have not been in the interests
of the residents. I know from my experience
that if this law is changed then this would
make a dramatic difference to planning for
our communities and would result in better
outcomes.
This is why if elected as your local MP I
have pledged to campaign to change the
planning law and if necessary present a
private members bill to Parliament.
