Knitting Daily TV WAL (Watch-A-Long!): This is one of my favorite shows, but I find it is becoming hard to actually find it on TV, even with a DVR. It seems that they're just not showing the old episodes anymore! The newest season, #8, is coming out soon and we can purchase the DVD's as of 1/15/12. I am going to order a store copy for us all to watch together. We will have a regular week night and Saturday each month when we get together and watch a new episode together. Who knows what will spring from that! It always generates tons of ideas for me and this season they are having a "getting started" segment with Eunny Jang that looks to be great for stretching beyond your Knit 101 skills. Anyone wanting to participate in the shop "Watch-A-Long" will also have to have their own DVD copy for copy right issues, so if you want to participate send me an email at [email protected]. The DVD set costs $39.99 and you can see the complete episode guide, table of contents and a preview here: http://www.interweavestore.com/Knitting/DVDs-Videos/Knitting-Daily-TV-Series-800-DVD.html. I will only order what we need, so let me know by January 15th if you want to join in! Kinetic Mystery KAL with Laura Nelkin starts January 13th! We are making the Ennoble scarf on the next retreat and we made the Susan Scarf on the last retreat. Laura Nelkin is the designer of both of those patterns. The Ennoble Scarf was actually her Mystery KAL last year. I am putting a thread on the BoY Ravelry page but you should also sign up on the Kinetik Mystery KAL Ravelry page at: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kinetik-mystery-kal or on Laura's website at http://www.nelkindesigns.com/index.cfm/gallery.page/85545.htm. The cost of participating is $7 for the pattern and it puts you on the mailing list to get all the patterns and clues as they come out. The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn. Most fingering weight yarn is issued as sock yarn, so this is a great opportunity to use that special sock yarn that you have been saving for just this type of project. I have chosen a skein of Shalimar (with cashmere!) for my project. I am taking the "no beads" option so I can use this yarn, plus I am teaching three classes on the upcoming retreat using beads and I just personally need a little bead break! If you need sock yarn, we have oodles of choices, just be mindful of whether you are using beads or not. Beads need a sturdy yarn that will stand up to all that sliding without too much wear and tear! Here are some other "to do" items from Laura's Ravelry page to get ready: 1. Sign up for the KAL on Ravelry or on my website. 2. Gather your materials listed on the pattern. 3. Wind your yarn in to a ball… if you plan on working with beads do not make this a center pull ball! It does not work to have lots of pre-strung beads and center pull balls… trust me! 4. Do a gauge swatch, the pattern lists the gauge you should be getting with your yarn on Size 5 ndls in stockinette stitch. Adjust needle size if necessary. 5. If you have done items 1 - 4 and you want to practice working with beads I would suggest practicing the stitch used in Beaded Eye Glass Cord. There is a video if you get stuck on it! 6. Add your project to your Ravelry library! There might just be some contests.. and you'll have to have your project added to be eligible! You can add the tag Kinetik Mystery . Patty's Breathless yarn in Concord Grape! Malabrigo Yarn! We got a surprise shipment today from Malabrigo! It is their brand-new Superwash Wool, Arroyo! Arroyo is a 100% Merino sport weight yarn (it falls between the Malabrigo sock and Malabrigo Worsted) and it has 335 yards on a 100 gram ball. It is a perfect weight for hats, scarves and oooooh gloves!Gloves in Malabrigo, I can just hear the sighs of contentment now. Arroyo is so new that there is even a Ravelry forum for shops that have it to list their location and available colors! And look at all these great colors that we have! Cruise Update:It is not too late to sign up! We have just a few spaces available. All the knitters have chosen their class schedules and all the instructors are busily get all their teaching tools ready! Customer projects: Here is a picture of a beautiful Ruana that good friend Tasse Little made with yarn she had stashed for over 10 years! Her brother had brought her a huge spool of dark blue mohair from a trip to New Zealand back in the 90's! We rolled it off the spool, figured out the weight and length, and Tasse picked a pattern and some Tussah Silk from our friends at FibroFibers to knit along with it and viola, stash smashed! KAL Christmas Stockings! It is time to get started! Sign up on our Ravelry KAL page and let's get knitting! http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/baskets-of-yarn/1965607/1-25#2 Let's get those stockings on the needles and finished by November! On our Needles I have asked all the GAL's to find a project to put on the needles at the shop. If they have down time while they are here, they will be working on them so that you will have an opportunity when you visit to see more projects underway. First up is Angie since it is also her turn to pick a birthday yarn! She has chosen Berroco Boboli as her yarn and is working on the Honey Cowl (©Madelinetosh), which is one of the top patterns on Ravelry this year. It is a free Ravelry download and you can see a picture of it here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/honey-cowl Sorry but we just got Angie to make her choice on Thursday, so we will have to post her picture later! Berroco Boboli is on sale this week for 20% off! Take a look at past projects "on our needles" for fun and inspiration!
