J UNE 2015 Bella Vista Baptist Church Phone: (479) 855-3748 Prayer Room: (479) 855-6644 E-mail: [email protected] www.bvbaptist.com Something to Think About Philippians 2:14 says, “Do ever ything without grumbling and arguing.” Let me start by saying, “Oh what a better world we would have if everyone followed just that verse.” Most don’t, but what if they did? What about if just the church did? Would church not be a more inviting and positive place? Of course it would! Several years ago I had that verse laminated on cards as a reminder to myself and the staff at that time. Like all Scripture I think we’d all do well to strive to live it out. Fast forward some time with me to another event. Two pastors met one evening. One asked the other, “How are you? How are things going?” The response came fast and easy – almost automatic, “I’m good!” He really wasn’t, but he didn’t want to be seen as whiney or weak, especially in front of another pastor. There was a brief pause for a moment while the second pastor pondered his answer. He was asked a sincere question by a friend. There was no malice or impure motives here. This was a by Pastor Michael McCauley fellow pastor, one who, albeit from a different denomination, loved and served the same Jesus! He doubtlessly could relate to his friend; his brother in Christ. The second pastor spoke again, “No! No, I’m not really doing alright. Not really.” What ensued was a short but much needed conversation. I started to type, “The most important part of the conversation was….” but I am not sure if I can identify what the most important part was. Was it the fact the first pastor sincerely cared? Was it the shared calling and the bond that allowed the two to trust each other? Was it the evaluation of his answer and his decision to let go of his pride enough to admit he was struggling? Again, I’m not sure if one could objectively decide which aspect of this encounter was most important, what I can tell you is that this encounter was beneficial for both men involved. Both were encouraged and taught by what took place. Both left knowing that God had used him in the other’s life. Both were reminded of the subtle dangers of pride in our lives and were reminded that it could so easily rob us of the help and encouragement we sometimes need. Two Christians had an encounter in which care and humility were shown. As a result two pastors were better equipped to lead their congregations and the two denominations were both strengthened. Right away hundreds of church members between the two churches were potentially positively benefitted because of it. In time, only God knows what will happen because of this brief encounter BUT here is something that I do know: multiple times a day we each potentially have similar encounters. Are you ready! What does God want to do in and through your next encounter? Do you care enough to engage and listen? Are you willing to swallow your pride enough to open up? It’s Something To Think About…. Please allow me to officially announce to the entire Bella Vista Baptist Church that God’s plan for the next phase of the Salls family ministry lies at the heart of Fort Worth, Texas. I have prayed and requested that God would show me clear signs as I strove to seek His will. He has provided multiple answers that this will be our new church and mission field. It will be hard to leave the staff that I have grown to love. It has been an honor to serve under the leadership of Pastor Mike. He has provided wisdom, counsel, and a true friendship that I pray continues for years to come. Pastor Dave has provided wisdom and friendship that I will value always. The administrative staff: Kathy, Stacy, Julie, Renee, and Carolyn, have not only made it possible for me to do my job but, have helped me look my very best. Also, I thank Nancy and Julie for their kind support and friendship. I’ve been blessed with dedicated and capable staff musicians (Katie) and my wife, Sunny; and blessed with the Audio/Visual Tech. (David and his amazing crew) who helped to bring my vision to light. It is extremely difficult for us to even think about leaving Bella Vista. This has been our home. We love our church. You have truly become family to us. The love and support that we have received from BVBC is indescribable. During our time here, we have seen God do miraculous things and I know that He has even bigger things in store! God has given me this Scripture, from Genesis 12. “The Lord has said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’” After his act of obedience of sacrificing his son, Isaac, the most difficult act of obedience that Abraham had to face must have been following this directive from God. God has been telling me, “Go from your Bella Vista, where you find comfort and safety, your Bella Vista Baptist Church family, whom gives you unending love and dedication, your home where you have a strong attachment, to this new mission field I have shown you.” We will need you all to pray hard for us to be brave and to have courage. I know that God is placing our family at this new location because we need to grow and to be better equipped to serve Him. Without His strength and wisdom it will be impossible. On behalf of our family, I sincerely thank you. You have loved us, taught us, ministered to us, There have been so many wonderful volunteers I could not possibly mention them all and fear that I would leave someone out; from those who help with senior adult care, visitation, and events, to our adult choir, orchestra, drama team, audio/visual team, set planners and builders, ushers, handbell choir members, children’s choir leaders, and the list goes on and on! Thank you all! I humbly request a few things of you. I ask that you show the same support to my successor. God has already prepared the one who will be more needed to BVBC than I am. I ask you to never lose sight of God’s vision for this church. I believe BVBC is the central hub of God’s military in Bella Vista, ultimately the entire NWA. Please be united, effective soldiers of God to PREACH the Word and to REACH the WORLD! Page 6 Bella Vista Baptist Church WOM ended its year with a trip to Youth Bridge where we toured the facility, learned about its program to help troubled teenagers, and left a generous contribution of requested items. Our special thanks to Jean Jerome who provided a variety of excellent programs for our meetings and Jackie Keller and Pat Hay who made arrangements for our trips and lunches together. Our meetings resume the first Wednesday morning in September. Plan to join us as we seek to learn about and minister to local organizations meeting the needs of our community, especially those of our children and young people. We enjoy a time of fellowship, devotions by our fellow members, prayer time for our missionaries, and a united effort in serving our Lord. Stitch n’ Chat is starting up for the new year.
