Nationally Recognised Training Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care CHC30113 COURSE OVERVIEW V1 Overview of Certificate III ECEC CHC30113 Welcome to the Certificate III in Early Education and Care The Certificate III in Early Education and Care is for people who wish to commence in a career in the early childhood education and care profession. This qualification covers educators who support the implementation of the Early Years Learning Framework (or other approved learning framework) and support children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, workers may work under direct supervision or autonomously. The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is recognised across Australia. There are 18 units of competency in Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, allocated as Core or Elective units. Each unit contains both off-the-job and on-the-job components. Course Structure To gain the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care participants are required to complete eighteen (18) units of competency. This is made up of 15 core and 3 elective units. Community Child Care Co-operative (NSW) (CCCCNSW) has chosen the electives, with the program to be as follows. If participants wish to complete alternative electives, this can be negotiated with CCCCNSW. We require the following hours as a minimum: thirty (30) hours working with infants (i.e. 0-2 year olds); thirty (30) hours working with toddlers (i.e. 2-3 year olds); plus sixty (60) hours working with pre-schoolers (i.e. 3-5 year olds); Participants are required to research and source a children’s service/s for work placement. The children’s services must be a regulated education and care service. This includes most long day care, preschools, occasional care and mobile services. We recommend that participants are employed in a children’s service. Work placement can take place in your own workplace, providing the workplace meets the above conditions (including ages of children attending). CCCCNSW will provide a structured learning plan to the participant and workplace supervisor indicating the purpose of the placement and the assessment requirements. You will be visited within your setting by your Assessor. Completion Time CCCCNSW creates programs estimating that participants complete the program within 12 months. CCCCNSW will work with the individual to create an individualised training plan according to individual circumstances. Please be aware that your trainee contract will specify the time available for completion of this course. If you have not completed by the specified completion date, CCCCNSW will discontinue providing training and assessment services from that date. For completion, you may then be liable for additional fees. Community Child Care Co-operative Ltd (NSW) 3 V1 Overview of Certificate III ECEC CHC30113 First Aid The ‘First Aid’ unit in the Certificate III HLTAID003 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting is not offered by CCCCNSW. This unit must be completed through another Registered Training Organisation and CCCCNSW will provide a credit transfer where appropriate. Please be aware that the course you are required to complete has the above course code. Previous codes will not be accepted, even though your first aid course may not yet be expired. Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer You may achieve this qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) where your skills and knowledge are recognised. We recommend that you have at least five years experience within education and care settings. CCCCNSW has a ‘RPL Pathways’ information booklet available on this topic. You can also contact CCCCNSW to discuss this option. CCCCNSW will also recognise previous units of competency achieve through other Registered Training Organisations. You will need to provide a certified copy of transcripts for these units. Assessment and Support Evidence of competency is based on a combination of workplace demonstration and confirmation, written questions, scenarios, case studies, simulated activities and verbal questions. Your assessor will keep in contact with you and your workplace supervisor to ensure that your workplace program is progressing as planned, and to provide support and assistance where required. You will also be observed by your Assessor during your work placement. As the readings and exercises for each unit are completed, assessment tasks can then be undertaken and when completed, forwarded to Community Child Care Co-operative for marking. It is recommended to access the internet to submit your assessments through CCCCNSW’s online submission site. If you are unable to access the internet, CCCCNSW will discuss other options available to you. Additional support will be provided by phone, fax, and email. Regular webinars will be available for participants to gain information, meet other participants and to link with their Assessor. Additional resources, including a discussion forum, are available on the CCCCNSW online submission site. Details of this site and all log ins will be provided on enrolment. Adjustments may be made to assessments where required to ensure individual participants are catered to. Suggested reading lists, websites and/or text books are provided.
