Invitations will be sent out to parents of students who will receive awards. Thank you to Keller Williams Realty, Youth Alive and Student Council for continuing to replenish the food pantry in the CHS Counseling Center. The following students were the winners of our 3rd quarter High Five drawings. Students having been identified by a CHS staff member for being “caught” doing something that exemplifies our Capital Code— Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be A Graduate go into the High Five drawing. Smart Schools Award! Congratulations to Mr. Pedersen and Mr. Mannix, along with the CHS Green Club, for receiving the Smart Schools Award! They received their award from our Lieutenant Governor on Earth Day. With the $1,000 award, they want to outfit more water fountains in the building with water filters and dispensers for water bottles. The water bottle dispenser in the Main Foyer has been in for nearly a week and has already saved nearly 1,000 plastic bottles! The one by the gym has been in for a while and has saved 34,000 plastic bottles. Congratulations! In addition to the grant, Student Council has raised $3,000 to help fund the water fountain project to help get them in all floors of the building. Capital High School has a website: chs.helenaschools.org The whole school district now has a new website- helenaschools.org, and each building now has a website linked to this new district website. Also, the ending of district emails will be transitioning to @helenaschools.org Vigilante Parade Vigilante Parade will start at high noon on Friday, May 1st. This community event started in 1924. Come and support the parade and students. HOSA Students Attend State Conference Students from Capital High recently competed in the eleventh annual State HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) Leadership Conference. These students competed in health skills events against other HOSA chapters throughout the state, as well as attending educational symposiums. This year’s symposiums included a cancer survivors’ panel discussion, electron microscope imaging and biofilms lab tours at Montana State University and a presentation by Summit Air Ambulance. The HOSA conference is important for these students interested in exploring health care fields. Each of these students will be going on to college and majoring in medical fields. Capital High sent 12 competitors with 8 qualifying for nationals. All award winners are eligible to compete in the National HOSA competition in June in Anaheim, CA. Capital High medal award winners are: Haylee Mooney—Gold in Sports Medicine; Al Ibsen—Silver in Epidemiology; Chelsea Skoog and Larissa Ribas—Bronze in Health Career Display; Corymarie Cooper—Bronze in Medical Photography; and, Jocelyn Gates, Justin Dingman, Bret Charlton and Haylee Mooney—Bronze in HOSA Bowl. CHS Booster Club The CHS Booster Club meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month except June, July and December. Meetings are held in the Library Conference Room at 6:30 p.m. All CHS Booster Club members are welcome to attend and we also welcome new members . Students Chosen to Study in Germany Arynn Collins and Caleb Noble , have been awarded a year-long scholarship to study in Germany. They will have the chance to study at a German high school, live with a family and get tons of opportunities to network. The Congress-Bundestag Scholarship is funded by the American and German governments. New Number for Traffic Education is 324-2107 Parents: Are you registered to vote? For your convenience, if you are not registered to vote, we now have voter registration applications in the main office. Graduation Tickets Seniors: Graduation is just around the corner! Commencement exercises will be held at Nelson Stadium on June 6, at 10:30 A.M. Each graduating senior will receive graduation tickets in case we are forced to host this event inside due to weather. Ready for Work Safety & Career Fair AN EVENT DESIGNED TO GIVE STUDENTS A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO SAFETY AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO NETWORK WITH POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS. HELENA COLLEGE AIRPORT CAMPUS: JUNE 23, 8AM - 5PM & JUNE 24, 10AM - 12PM. A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE MONTANA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR & INDUSTRY AND HELENA COLLEGE. READY FOR WORK Safety is a key element to Workforce Development, which is why the Department of Labor & Industry’s Safety & Health Bureau and Helena Job Service Office are teaming up with Helena College to host the Ready for Work: Safety & Career Fair. This 10-hour educational event will introduce recent high school graduates and current high school students to the basics of safety on the job through OSHA 10 Construction or OSHA 10 General Industry. Throughout the training students will have the opportunity to meet and network with potential employers. The goal is not only to introduce the students to OSHA and safety in the workplace, but to give them the opportunity to meet with employers to find out what skills they are looking for. This free two day training will not only give students the ability to identify hazards in the workplace, it will give their resume a boost as they enter the job market.
