The basic AFI has been substantially revised and must be completely reviewed. This supplement describes 21 SW’s procedures for use in conjunction with the basic AFI. It updates guidance on the wear of the uniform throughout the publication. This instruction applies to all personnel assigned to Peterson AFB, and all personnel assigned to the 21 SW including Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Command units. Refer recommended changes and questions about this publication to the Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR) using the AF IMT 847, Recommendation for Change of Publication; route AF IMT 847s from the fields through the appropriate functional’s chain of command. (Added) 21 SW GSUs, due to unique mission requirements and uniform availability, the installation commander will determine dress and personal appearance standards and is the delegation authority. 2 AFI36-2903_21SWSUP 27 MAY 2008 Table 1.5. Note 3. Squadron Commanders are delegated the authority to determine what is considered extreme or faddish. Note 5. The American Cancer Society cap (black/tan) is approved for wear in accordance with Note 5. Figure 2.6. Note 1. PT shirt (short- or long-sleeved style when available) must be worn tucked into the shorts unless actively exercising. Note 7. Hats are not authorized to be worn during formations (exception: black or navy blue wool or knit caps may be worn from 1 Oct – 15 Apr). Exception: Squadron Commanders may extend wear date according to unusual/extended local weather conditions. Ball caps may be worn during PT when not in formation. Ball caps must be navy blue, black, gray or white in color, and will not contain commercial/ non Air Force logos. Note 8. Personnel are not authorized to add civilian clothing items to PT gear when attending organized squadron PT formations, except as otherwise specified herein. Note 14. Headphones and earphones are not authorized when exercising on roadways, sidewalks, or on any paths that require the crossing of any street. Sunglasses (unless mandated by medical authority, or worn to prevent injury due to glare, wind or dust), and ball caps are prohibited while in formation. Members will not place sunglasses on top of their head or hang them around their neck. Exception: Gloves (black) and wool or knit caps (black or navy blue) may be worn from 1 Oct - 15 Apr. Note 19. Personnel will wear AF PT gear when attending organized unit PT sessions and Wing Warrior Day PT. Note 21. When attending unit PT, PT gear may be worn in any authorized combination. Members may wear black or navy blue leggings under the PT shorts. They may wear a gray or white long sleeve t-shirt under the PT T-shirt. Note 23. The black or navy blue knit cap is authorized for wear from 1 Oct – 15 Apr. The cap can only be worn when wearing an authorized outer garment, (Gortex jacket, Field Jacket, Parka or AF PT jacket). The bottom of the cap must be neatly folded into a one to two inch band, and will be worn squarely on top of the head or pulled down over the ears. Exception: Squadron Commanders may extend wear date according to unusual/extended local weather conditions. Table 2.2. Line 4. (Added) Hot weather, tropical boots with green or black cloth or canvas and black leather with plain toe, with zipper or elastic inserts are authorized. Line 6. Watch Cap. The black or navy blue knit cap is authorized for wear from 1 Oct – 15 Apr. The bottom of the cap must be neatly folded into a one to two inch band worn squarely on top of the head or over the ears. The cap can only be worn when wearing an authorized outer garment, (Gortex jacket, Field jacket, or Parka). Exception: Squadron Commanders may extend wear date according to unusual/ extended local weather conditions. Cap may also be worn in AF PT gear without PT jacket. Line 8. Outer garments. Appropriate head gear will be worn with all outer garments containing a hood, whether the hood is up or down. Line 14. Other. (Added) Unit issued cold weather boots (mukluk, bunny, ski mountain, industrial cold weather safety boots, overshoes, etc.) are authorized. These items may only be worn during inclement/ muddy weather. Table 2.3. Line 13. Watch Cap. The black or navy blue knit cap is authorized for wear from 1 Oct – 15 Apr. Appropriate head gear will be worn with all outer garments containing a hood, whether the hood is up or down. Line 12. Undershirt. Thermal underwear, sleeping shirt, brown sweater, and black turtleneck are authorized to be worn under the BDU shirt. While these items are worn, the BDU shirt will not be removed and the sleeves will not be shortened or rolled up. Line 13. Other. (Added) Unit issued cold weather boots (mukluk, bunny, ski mountain, industrial cold weather safety boots, overshoes, etc.) are authorized. Common Access Card (CAC). Will be completely removed from sight when not performing duties requiring the wear of the CAC. Line 13. (Added) Restricted area badges or special identification badges will be worn on the front of the body, displayed above the waist and below the neck. These badges will be completely removed from sight when not performing duties requiring the wear of the badges. Line 14. Lanyards. Will attach to the uniform above the waist and below the neck or may be placed around the neck and will be completely removed from sight when not performing duties requiring its wear. Restricted area badges worn on the flightline will be secured to the uniform to prevent ingestion by aircraft engines. Line 19. (Added) Poncho. The OD green or woodland camouflage poncho is authorized during inclement weather for wear with the BDU only. Line 20 (Added) Parkas may be worn with all uniform combinations from 1 Nov - 31 March during inclement weather. Exception: Squadron Commanders may extend wear date according to unusual/ extended local weather conditions Line 21. (Added) Other optional safety, occupational, or official clothing items are authorized at the discretion of the Squadron Commander. Table 3.4. Distinctive Uniforms—Security Forces (SF). Note 5. The black nylon holster and pouches are authorized. The drop holster is authorized at the discretion of the Squadron Commander. 3.2.5.8.1. (Added) If scarves are issued, then they are worn with the FDU unless superseded by AFI. Scarves may not be worn with turtlenecks. 3.2.6.1. (Added) 21 OG Squadrons listed below are authorized to wear the following colored undershirts on Fridays with FDUs, while at home station only: 76 SPCS - Gold, Detachment 1 from the 310th OG Red. 21 OG GSUs must conform to base of assignment guidance and supplements.
