St. John Catholic School Dress Code Policy A concentrated effort by each student to improve his/her appearance usually results in positive changes in attitude and behavior in the classroom and around the school campus. These improvements lead to better academic achievement. For all school wear, the administration reserves the right to determine what is in good taste. Parents and students should insure that a student comes to school in proper attire and appearance. All uniform items are available at uniform suppliers such as French Toast and Land’s End. If not ordering from French Toast or Lands End, one is still free to go to the website and compare your store bought choices to what is sold on our link. (ARTICLES OF CLOTHING ARE NOT TO HAVE ANY VISIBLE LOGO OTHER THAN AN OFFICIAL SCHOOL CREST.) BOYS (GRADES PK-5) Pants: Proper fitting uniform straight leg pants in navy blue. Denim blue jeans, cargo pants or sweat-suit material are not permitted. Pants are not to be rolled above the ankle, drag the ground or be worn below the waist. Shorts: Navy shorts (no shorter than 4 inches above the knee). Shorts may be worn prior to November 1 and after March 31. Shorts are NOT acceptable on mass days. Shirts: A plain long or short sleeve white or red polo shirt is to be worn (cardinal red, not burgundy or maroon). Light blue oxford shirts are allowed when accompanied by a school plaid or rich red and navy striped neck tie. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. ONLY plain white undershirts may be worn under uniform shirts. Sweatshirts\Sweaters/Blazers: Solid white, navy, or red, crew-neck sweaters and/or sweatshirts may be worn with or without the school crest are allowed in the classroom during school hours. Sweater vests in solid navy or red are permitted with or without the school crest. None of these are not to be oversized. Navy blazers with the school crest are allowed. Socks: Socks must be worn at all times. Sock are not to have any emblems on them. They must be SOLID white , navy or black in color. Sock lengths can be anything from ankle length to knee high any day but mass days. Days that we attend mass, socks MUST cover the ankle (no footies). School purchased St. John eagle socks may also be worn. Shoes: Shoes with closed toe and heel are to be worn at all times. Shoes are to be laced and tied at all times. Shoes with nonmarking soles only. Shoes that light up, have glitter/sparkles or characters are not permitted. Non-athletic shoes are allowed in the colors of black, white, brown or navy. Athletic shoe are allowed without lights or glitter and/or sparkles. (TOMs and BOBs are NOT athletic shoes.) Students may wear any type of boot to and from school, but must remove them prior to attending any classes. Jewelry/ Accessories: Religious medals are permitted. Belts must be plain brown, black or navy with no ornamentation. BOYS may wear neck ties in school plaid or uniform rich red and navy striped. Hairstyles: All students are to have their hair neat and clean at all times. No fad hairstyles will be permitted. Hair hanging in the face is prohibited. Boy's hair must be off the collar. Hair may not be unnatural colors. No hats, caps or sweatbands are to be worn during the school day. Scents: No cologne or body spray or splash is permitted. BOYS (GRADES 6-8) Eighth grade boys will follow the same dress code as the rest of the school with the following exceptions: Khaki pants or shorts will be worn by middle school grade students. Polo shirts must be white or navy blue. **Parents are reminded that Khaki is a darker shade. Bottoms in the colors of stone, sand or wheat are NOT acceptable uniform items. GIRLS (GRADES PK-5) Skirts /Skorts Jumpers: Proper fitting skirts, skorts and jumpers in school plaid (green plaid) may be worn in grades K - 5 only. Jumpers are to be v-necked. Skirts and skorts in navy may be worn as well. Any skirt, skort or jumper in school plaid MUST be worn with a white top. Shorts: Navy shorts (no shorter than 4 inches above the knee). Bottoms in the colors of stone, sand or wheat are NOT acceptable uniform items. Spirit Wear (PK-8) st rd th Spirit Wear days will be the 1 , 3 and 5 Monday’s of the month. Spirit Wear is ANY St. John printed shirt or uniform shirt and denim blue or black jeans. Uniform attire is always welcome on Spirit Wear days as well. Spirit Wear apparel will be available for sale at the beginning of each year. ***Scooters, a girl’s bottom that reflects shorts from one view, are not an acceptable. An example image is provided for clarification. This is an example of a scooter. Please note: Violation of the uniform code will result in the following: 1st offense: A letter will be sent home to the parent. This must be signed and returned. 2nd offense: The parent will be called to bring appropriate uniform attire. The student will receive a conduct mark. 3rd and any continued offense: The child will be removed from school. He/she may return to school when compliant with the uniform code. It is the responsibility of parents to make sure the dress code is observed. Your cooperation is appreciated.
