Summary
The primary function of the Animal Care Manager is to ensure the health and well-being of all animals in HSTV’s
care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.






















Works with the Operations Manager to hire, supervise and evaluate kennel technicians
Responsible for training kennel technicians how to clean, feed, medicate and exercise all animals
Schedules kennel technicians, coordinating staffing needs with Adoption Manager
Responsible for animal intake process
Assist with pulling animals from area shelters
Update and maintain all incoming animal paperwork
Ensure that all animals are entered into shelter software within 24 hours of incoming
Perform animal care including: feeding, baths, vaccinations, deworming, blood draws, fecal samples, micro
chipping and arranging grooming
Schedule the spay or neuter of each incoming animal
Responsible for daily feeding, exercise and medication of animals
Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the adoption areas, kennels, intake, isolation, laundry and
exercise yards
Schedule transportation of animals to surgery or off-site vet care
Manage shelter volunteers
Update and maintain animal feeding and medication paperwork
Ensure that each animal’s vaccines and medications are entered correctly and completely into shelter
software
Work with the Operations Manager and Adoption Manager to schedule incoming animals (from shelters,
fosters, returns, surrenders)
Assist with meet & greet appointments for potential adopters
Order and maintain inventory levels for animal care items, food, medical supplies and cleaning supplies
Assist adoption counselors with customer service
Educate the public on animal care
Understand and be able to educate the public about HSTV’s mission
Other projects as needed
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job supervises the kennel technicians on each shift.

Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Ability to deal with problem involving several concrete variables in standard situations.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and
outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to excessive. Both indoor
and outdoor work is required.
Computer Skills / Office Equipment
Basic computer and office equipment skills needed, unless otherwise specified. Proficiency with Microsoft Word,
Excel and Access preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences
between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple to complex sentences.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these
operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
