PROGRAM - 1st International Integrative Nursing Symposium

PROGRAM
1st International
Integrative Nursing
Symposium
Reykjavik Iceland
18 – 20 May 2015
We take cancer personally
ROC150403
Welcome
We are very pleased to welcome you to the 1st International Integrative Nursing Symposium. The interest in integrative nursing is a global phenomena
and we are so pleased to convene over 250 clinicians, educators and students from 12 countries!
While the essence of nursing has long been whole person (body, mind, and spirit) and whole system-focused, in reality the contemporary practice
of nursing in many settings around the globe has become increasingly fragmented and de-stabilized. Nursing shortages in many parts of the world
are significant, and hierarchies and bureaucracies often remove nurses from the point of care, be that the bedside, home, or clinic, replacing them
with less skilled workers and filling their time with documentation and other administrative tasks. Integrative nursing is a framework for providing
whole person/whole system care that is relationship-based and person-centered and focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of caregivers
as well as those they serve. The principles of integrative nursing offer clear and specific guidance that can shape and impact patient care in all
clinical settings.
The theme for the symposium “Expanding Care and Transforming Lives” is well expressed in presentations that focus on applications of integrative
nursing in a wide variety of clinical settings including acute care, mental health, oncology, community health, pediatrics, senior care, and midwifery.
Sessions will also be offered on integrative nursing and education, informatics, self-care, the environment and integrative therapies and healing
practices. A new session has been added on “Nurses and the Media: Tips on telling your Story. The focus throughout the conference will be
leadership and innovation.
We are so pleased to be in Reykjavik Iceland! When the symposium is not in session, we hope that you will have an opportunity to spend time in
nature exploring glaciers, lava fields, waterfalls and geysers. Close to Reykjavik, there are restaurants, shopping areas and art galleries to explore
as well as the Blue Lagoon.
We hope that you enjoy your time in Iceland and that you find the symposium fulfilling personally as well as professionally.
Warm Regards,

Jos de Blok
Jos de Blok is the founder and CEO of Buurtzorg (neighborhood nursing), a Dutch company with 9000 employees
(in 2014) offering home care services to more than 60.000 patients a year. Founded in 2006 with one team of four
nurses, Buurtzorg has transformed home-based health care and it has created an innovative method for nursing care
at home. As a community based and client centered company, Buurtzorg connects highly qualified licensed nurses
and clients to create positive and proactive solutions that are effective, holistic, and sustainable. Organized in small
autonomous teams of up to 12 nurses within a neighborhood-sized care area, Buurtzorg nurses bring groundbreaking
synergy and expertise in a direct and connected relationship between care-giver and client. Buurtzorg has succeeded
in reducing administrative burden for nurses, improving quality of care and raising work satisfaction for their employees (Buurtzorg was awarded two times employer of the year in the Netherlands). Buurtzorg is supported by an
innovative IT system and works without management structure. Affiliates recently started in Sweden and in the US.
