Mental Health Nursing - Buckinghamshire New University

MENTAL HEALTH FIELD
NURSING SAMPLE CV
This CV is one of a series of three (the other two are (1) Child and (2) Adult). Each is slightly
different, so it would be worthwhile looking at each of these.
The purpose of any CV is for you to sell your relevant skills within the context of your experiences.
The CV should be personalised to the role you are applying for so you will need to consider (a) The
Person Specification, and (b) the Job Description.
Do include your degree classification if awarded a 1st.
When describing your placement experience be careful how you word your duties. Promote your
experience without exaggerating any responsibilities undertaken. You need to be prepared to be
questioned, if offered an interview, on anything mentioned in your CV.
Nursing applicants should try to ensure that they are seen as someone who:
(1) Is able to work independently
(2) Is a team player
(3) has developed a knowledge and skills base but recognises their continued need to develop
(4) can cope in stressful situations
(5) Is not afraid to seek help
(6) Is not afraid to challenge assumptions
(7) Is able to work collaboratively with the patient and carer
(8) Has skills in risk assessment and management
(9) Is aware of the legislation surrounding mental health care
Embedded in the above are value and behaviour based competences demonstrating compassion in
practice which every organisation linked to the NHS bases its recruitment activities on.
