If your child is hearing impaired please contact Mrs Marg Tope, the leader of the Deaf Facility through the school office. Car Parking – St Aidan’s Road Parents/Carers are reminded that the fenced car park on St Aidan’s Road is for the use of staff and visitors to the CASES Training building located on St Aidan’s Road, and is not a Kennington Primary School Car Park. In return staff and visitors to the CASES Training Centre have been asked to ensure that they do use the provided car park to ensure that available parking spaces along St Aidan’s Road are available for members of our school community. The Link The Link is the main form of communication with you and the school. The Link will be sent home with the youngest child in each family or look on www.kenningtonps.vic.edu.au. The Link is published on Thursdays. Sometimes, where we need to ensure that a piece of information gets to all of our school community, a notice will be repeated in a number of newsletters. Student Welfare Some of the students in our school community are receiving medical treatments, which puts them at risk if they develop chicken pox or shingles. It is very important therefore, that you let us know immediately if you believe that your child has contracted or recently been exposed to chicken pox or shingles. Please contact the school office as soon as possible so that the child’s parents can be alerted immediately. Your child is not at risk whatsoever from this situation. Regards Glenda Miller th Education Week – Open Day Wednesday 20 May Principal The National Assessment Program (NAPLAN) We will celebrate Education Week with our Open Day on th Wednesday 20 May. Visitors are welcome to our school throughout the morning and a schedule of events will be provided to visitors on arrival. A program is attached to the LINK on page 10. NAPLAN tests are held during May each year and in 2015 th th th the tests will be held on the 12 , 13 , 14 May. Primary school students in Year 3 and Year 5 complete the tests. The results of the tests provide diagnostic information for parents and teachers about a child’s performance in Literacy and Numeracy. This information can be used to support teaching and learning programs and improve student achievement. Student Reports Semester 1 student reports will be distributed on Friday th 19 June, and will be followed up with Student Led rd Conferences on Tuesday 23 June. AusVELS is the Australian Curriculum in Victoria. This Curriculum framework was introduced in 2013 for Prep to Year 10 students. AusVELS replaces the VELS – Victorian Essential Learning Standards. The VELS curriculum has been used in schools for curriculum planning, assessment and student reporting since 2006. The first four Australian Curriculum subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and History have been introduced into the already established VELS framework and renamed AusVELS. The remaining Australian Curriculum subjects will be implemented progressively over time. If your child has a disability or special needs which require extra consideration you should discuss with your child’s teacher whether or not your child should undertake the tests. Later in the year, you will receive your child’s personal report. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in reading, writing, language conventions and numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national benchmark standards. These benchmarks describe minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia. PREP 2016 - Enrolment All parents who are intending to enrol their child in Prep at Kennington for next year, 2016, should collect an Information Pack from the school office. The pack includes information pertinent to KPS including the Great Start Transition Program and includes the official school enrolment form. The enrolment form and a copy of the child’s birth certificate and immunisation record must be th returned to school by Friday 26 June, 2015. I am confident that the information you receive as a result of your child’s participation in the NAPLAN tests will be valuable in providing you with an insight of your child’s progress in Literacy and Numeracy. For more information about the tests, please visit the VCAA website at; www.vcaa.vic.edu.au or the NAPLAN website at www.naplan.edu.au 3 PE News Soccer Congratulations to Ruben W (6B) and Ella K (6B) who was selected through to the next stage of the State Soccer trials.
