What does it mean to be a Kindlehill parent?
What do I like about the school?
What warms my heart?
Sometimes I have conversations with strangers about Kindlehill and
they’re wanting some information about our school. The first
question often is: “how do you find it?”. “I/we love it” is my
standard response. But the last time someone asked me, it got me
thinking, what is it that I love?
It’s a lot of individual things….
Like the teachers (they’re awesome!);
The beautiful buildings and environment and the love and thought
that has gone into them;
I love that I can be at school and be in my children’s class and help
out and share the things I know. By doing that the children get to
know me and my other children that warms my heart.
I love that Daisy is so loved and, at age 1, that she is a part of our
school already.
I love that when we go out on the weekend, a high school student
will come up to Asha (in 1st class) and say Hi and have a chat and
that warms my heart.
I love being at the school and sometimes find myself missing school
on the days that I work when I can’t do pick up and drop off.
I like knowing the other children in my kids’ classes.
I love that my kids are happy and their teachers really know and
strive to know them and that warms my heart.
It’s a lot of individual things, but it is a feeling of being at home that
I love. It was a sense when we first started and is something that
has built over time: deepening relationships, having an
understanding of our school, coming, going, staying a little longer in
the morning for a chat, helping out…

Sat 20/6 Winter Magic, performance and stall
Monday 13th July 1st day of Term 3
Dear families,
At this time of year we swing into across the school preparations for
Winter’s Night: Singing, music, dance around the winter hearth,
magically woven through the lessons of the day. There will also be
the usual candle making and lantern making. This year, we are
planning an orchestral spectacular of The Shining, arranged by Paul
Smith. This will be a collaboration of our instrument programme.
Amy Jenkin has been working in class 2/3 to create “the nymphs”,
which are hatching at this time of year deep in the swampy earth.
She will also be working with classes to create an illuminated
swamp using eco dyeing, weaving and sculpting. If you would like
to help, speak with your class teacher.
Dragonfly Mosaic
Have you noticed the dragonflies on the sandpit wall? Leanne Tobin
and her son Shay, have been working with groups of children to
create the mosaic and it is now at the installation phase. We have
thoroughly enjoyed having Leanne and Shay do this project in our
school.
Warm regards,
Lynn
PEACE AND RECONCILIATION FORUMS – TOLERANCE AND
COSMOPOLITANISM – how do we deal with difference?
FRIDAY 12TH JUNE, 6:45PM
The next forum is on Friday 12th June, when Kal Gulson will give a
presentation followed by a conversation. I personally am very
excited about this topic – it is really applicable across every field of
our lives in relationship to others, from the personal to the social. I
think conversations such as this one can help us think clearly
about how we can take our societies forward, becoming more fair
and inclusive. Thanks to Kal for sharing his expertise with us. Please
pass on the information through your networks so that we can make
these
conversations available to our broader community.
Autumn Fair Success
School happenings….
Term 2—Diary
Week 7:
Week 8:
Our Autumn Fair proved to be a success in many ways. The school
was buzzing from noon on Friday, with cooking, setting up tents,
laying tyres and decorating . The first volunteers arrived early
Saturday morning, with the last leaving as dusk fell on Saturday
evening.
The day proved to be an excellent fundraiser for the school. The
bistro made $1040, craft sales $1085, coffee sales $760, Chai sales
$410, token sales for activities and raffle tickets were $1645.15, face
painting hundreds of tokens. The Treasure and Treasure Stall made
enough to go on their snow camp. In total, we banked $4940.15!
There were many new faces about, with teachers spending a large
part of the day meeting and greeting, making our guests feel
welcome.
Many thanks to the many parents and teachers who spent hours
planning, cooking, cleaning, sewing, and decorating. It would be
impossible to name all of you, so a huge thanks and our utmost
gratitude to you all.
Autumn Leaves
Last week, Little Kindy and Big Kindy went to
Myoori Park to collect autumn leaves for our
Bio Dynamic Compost Day. We were greeted
by enormous piles of leaves, perfect for leaf
jumping, leaf swimming and of course leaf
throwing. The day was sunny with a crisp
autumn breeze perfect.
Together we
enjoyed a picnic
morning tea and
a sack race,
games and
songs. Finally it was time to empty the
sacks of children and fill them with
leaves. What a beautiful Kindlehill
tradition.
Urgent - Winter Magic Stall
A call for volunteers and someone to coordinate a stall at this
community event. The dance troupe will be performing Feathers and
Water on the day. Contact Kirsty in the office if you can help.
