Koroit & District PS Newsletter Term 2 Week 4 - Newsletter Date: 8th May 2015 School Agreements • • • • • Mutual Respect Attentive Listening Appreciations and not Put Downs Right to Pass Personal Best TERM Dates for 2015 Term 2: 13 April to 26 June Term 3: 13 July to 18 September Term 4: 5 October to 18 December MENTOR FOCUS Eating Better Start the day with a healthy breakfast. It refuels your body and gives you energy for the day. • Let kids help plan one meal each week and eat together as often as possible. • Eat slowly. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to register that you are full. • Eat more vegetables and fresh fruits. Aim for a total of 2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables every day. • Eat more whole grains (e.g., oats, brown rice, rye, crackers, whole-wheat pasta). Try to eat at least 3 ounces of whole grains every day. • Drink plenty of fluids. Choose water, low-fat or non-fat milk and low calorie or diet beverages. Serve a variety of foods. • From The Principal What a fantastic effort from so many people for the Irish Festival!!! Did you see the incredible dancing from our grade 5/6 students? It was lovely to see formation dancing again and also the precision of the flag dance with Keira keeping them all in time. Special thanks to Pamela Dowling for teaching the students and encouraging them. As usual our parents toiled long and hard at the BBQ and raised about $2000 profit. Excellent organisation and lots of hard work. Thank you. Chook bingo raised a further $300 despite the chook taking 20 minutes to do its "business". I thoroughly enjoyed my late evening walk with the 5km fun run/walk. Once again thank you to the grade 6 leaders, Rachael and all staff who helped, local businesses for their donations of spot prizes and to all those families and community members who participated. Nearly $800 was raised towards juvenile diabetes, more specifically for the equipment to help one of our students. Congratulations everyone on great efforts for the whole weekend. Of course everyone wants to know the winners of he leprechaun competition. The voters prize goes to the Koroit Kindergarten and the judges prize was an equal first with the Koroit CWA entry and Gen Bale with her novel display of the Leprechaun’s Tea Party. Well done everyone on a great effort and don't forget to keep your leprechaun and modify it again for a future entry. A few reminders to keep checking your diary for: 1. Friday 15 May: Food Revolution Day: cooking with Jamie Oliver 2.Tuesday 19 May: Morning tea with me. Friday 22 May: Walk to school and healthy breakfast morning. 5. Friday 22 May: Grandparent day 11:30 with lunch for them at 12:30. Mothers Day is a special time and I hope you are all shown some form of appreciation from your children...a phone call, card, offer to help, sharing a meal or a walk together. I know that the greatest pleasure for a parent is to see your children healthy and happy. Thank you to Jane and the students who prepared a range of tasty scones for our mums’ afternoon tea today. Again I am sorry I couldn't be there to join you all but I hope you all have a great weekend. These included Stop, Look, Listen and Walk carefully when crossing and of course to use designated crossing areas when available. He also reminded us all about the need for helmets with cycling, scooting or skating. He demonstrated: how to check if the helmets are safe…must have the foam inserts in place and have no damage. how to fit the helmet properly…two fingers from top of eyebrows to top of helmet and two fingers slide under the chin strap. REMINDER RE MOYNE SHIRE GAZETTED HOLIDAY: May 7 2015 As Moyne shire has gazetted that May Race day is a public holiday, the school will be closed for this day. So please note that there is no school for staff or students on May 7. MORNING TEA WITH THE PRINCIPAL Michelle invites all parents, current and future, to join her for morning tea to talk about our school. She loves to hear your ideas and to share her vision for our school. Tuesday 19th May at 10am. GRANDPARENTS DAY Our annual grandparents’ day will be Friday 22 May in Education Week. Please alert grandparents to this date. We will encourage them to visit classrooms from 11:30 and we will offer them a simple lunch at 12:30. WHOLE SCHOOL WALK The whole school walk has been rescheduled from May 18 until sometime in June due to a clash with eisteddfod times. We are planning a different location for the walk this year. NEWSFLASH!!!! FUN RUN RAISES $800 towards the $8000 diabetes pump to help Mitch McCosh. In another good will gesture, the Koroit Kindergarten who won the voters prize of $100 for their leprechaun, have also donated their winnings to the juvenile diabetes project. Thank you to the kindergarten. Next Friday Hayley Ampt will cut off her long locks of hair at school. We ask for a gold coin donation (or more) to Hayley’s effort. This money will also go towards the new pump. She will donate her hair for wigs for people who lose their hair to cancer. We welcome any further donations towards this great cause. I have been asked from community members if they can help, so please let them know we will accept donations at the school.
