Publishing and Sharing Unlisted YouTube Videos to a Secret Facebook Group
In this short lesson, you will see how to use your iPhone or iPod Touch to shoot and upload a video to
YouTube, how to designate the video as "Unlisted," and then how to share your video with a "secret"
Facebook group. Your instructor will set up a Facebook group for your class and invite you. Once
everyone has joined, your instructor will make the group "secret" and notify you it is okay to share
YouTube videos to the group.
Requirements: YouTube and Facebook accounts, mobile YouTube and Facebook apps, mobile device
with video camera, Internet access

Create a YouTube Account
If you don't already have a YouTube account, go to http://youtube.com and click "Create Account." You
will need to use a Gmail account or set a new one up.
Create a Facebook Account
If you don't already have a Facebook account, go to http://fb.com and enter the information to create an
account. Make sure you verify your privacy settings to keep your information as private as you want.

Join the Facebook Class Group
You will receive an email from your instructor, inviting you to join a Facebook class group set up for this
purpose. (S)he will send you the URL of the group page. At the top of the page you should click
"Request to Join." Your instructor will add you. As soon as everyone is added to this group, (s)he will
make it Secret. Once the group is Secret, you can share your Unlisted YouTube videos.
Record Your Video
Using your iPhone or iPod Touch, click the Camera icon. Move the slider at the lower right-hand corner
to the right to take a video. Click the red recording button and shoot your video. (Optional: Purchase
and install the iMovie app to further edit your video right on your mobile device.)
Publish Video
After you have reviewed your video, click the little Send icon in the lower left hand corner.

Send to YouTube
Click the "Send to YouTube" button. If this is the first time you have published to YouTube, you will be
asked for your username and password. (Note: If you want to change this setting in the future to
another account, go to your YouTube app on your iPod and click the More link. Then, sign out and sign
in again with your preferred account.)

Publish as "Unlisted"
Fill out the information. If your video is small, you might want to publish it in HD. Add tags and an
appropriate category. Here's the important step: Click "Unlisted," for the type of publishing. This will
allow anyone with a link to view your video, but your video will not be searchable or publicly displayed
on YouTube.

Share the URL
Wait for the video to finish publishing to YouTube (you will see a progress bar at the bottom.) Another
box will pop up once publishing is complete. Click "Tell a Friend," and you will be directed to your email,
with the Unlisted URL.

Select and Copy URL
Click the URL and hold. Choose "Select All." The URL will be highlighted in light blue. Select "Copy" to
put this on your iPod digital clipboard.

Share to Facebook with Mobile App
Using your Facebook mobile app, navigate to Facebook. If this is your first time, you will need to sign in
with your username and password.

Navigate to your Facebook Groups
Click the Groups icon once you are signed in to Facebook on your mobile device.

Select Your Class Group
From the list of your Facebook Groups, select your class group.

Pasting Unlisted URL with Comments
Click "Write Post" and then click inside the white text space. You will then see the "Paste" option.
Select "Paste" and your URL will be pasted to this text box. Include text as required by your instructor
and then click "Share." Your new post will appear in your Fb group, with a link for all members to view
your video.
Using Facebook in this way enables easy viewing of Unlisted videos, commenting and archiving, while
keeping them in a private environment through the Secret Facebook group.

Share to Facebook through Browser
When you share your video URL to Facebook with the mobile app, you only have the option of posting.
However, if you add a link through the web interface, then your video is embedded on your Facebook
page. Viewers can view the video directly from the page in browser view.
If you want to share your video with your Fb group through the browser interface, then go to your
YouTube account, locate the video, and copy the URL.
Click the drop down box next to your name in YouTube and select "My Videos."

Copy Unlisted Video URL
To find the URL of your video, click the video thumbnail in your video list. Your video will open to play
and you can copy the URL from the browser bar.

Post as link to Facebook Group
Navigate to your Facebook group, select "Link" from the Share options and paste the URL. Click
"Attach" and then post your comments or information as directed by your instructor.
Deleting Your Facebook Posts
You always have the option to delete your Facebook posts. Go to your Facebook page and hold your
mouse or place your cursor over your post. You will see a little "x" mark at the top right-hand corner.
Click this and you can delete your post.
