The Book for Announced Masses for the year 2016
will be opened on Tuesday, May 5, in Room Blessed
Peter Donders (formerly Room 101), 552 59th Street,
from 8 AM to 12 PM, from 1–4 PM and 5-8 PM.
A maximum of 6 Masses will be accepted from each
person. No Masses will be accepted before the 5th. Coffee
and doughnuts will be served. After the 5th, you may then
come to the Rectory during regular business hours to reserve
more Masses.

Next weekend Christian Catholic Families of Bethlehem will
be selling Crucifixes, religious art work and rosaries, all made
of olive wood which is native to Israel and Bethlehem. Please
stop by the 5th Avenue entrances of the Church and maybe
you’ll see something you’d like to buy.
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
Today is Good Shepherd Sunday, our gospel today
leads us to reflect on Jesus Christ who is our Good Shepherd.
You may also be aware that our Holy Father has designated this
year as “The Year for Consecrated Life.” This is a year when
we celebrate those men and women who have dedicated their
lives in service to the Church through a vocation to the
Religious Life. We here at Our Lady of Perpetual Help have
been blessed to have two religious communities serving us from
the very beginnings of our parish over one hundred years ago.
Our Redemptorist Community founded this parish and the
Sisters of St. Joseph have shared in this ministry almost from
the very beginning. Since this is Good Shepherd Sunday, we
thought that it would be a good time to honor and celebrate our
religious communities who have shepherded this parish from
the start.
What is Consecrated Life? It consists of those men and
women who have accepted the calling to live in religious
community bound by the vows of poverty, chastity, and
obedience. Each community has a special charism or distinctive
calling which originates with the community’s founder. We
Redemptorists were founded by St. Alphonsus in Scala, Italy, on
November 9, 1732. It was the dream of St. Alphonsus that we
especially minister to those in greatest need of the gospel, those
forgotten or rejected by others. Religious Life has always been
a part of the church; it is a special calling for those who wish to
go above and beyond the bare minimum in their service to
Christ. We religious are asked to bear witness to Christ by our
community life and through the daily living of our vows. What
should make our ministry so special is that it arises not just
from our love for Jesus Christ but from our desire to minister
together, as a community consecrated by religious vows to the
following of Jesus Christ. We religious seek to follow Christ
more closely through the profession of our vows and to enrich
the Body of Christ with the gift of our consecration. Like others,
we too are shepherds of the Church but we minister in a special
way as members of a consecrated community.
Perhaps you might be interested in serving the Church
through the gift of religious life? Perhaps you already have
chosen the road of a vocation to marriage, parenthood, and
other forms of service to the Church; if so, perhaps today you
can pray for more vocations to religious life.

Our Pentecost Raffle begins today! For just $10 you

masses at the entrances of the church. The proceeds
from the raffle will help us close a gap in the church
budget as we come to the close of the fiscal year. The winners

study on “The Holy Spirit in the Gospels of Luke and John.”
They will start promptly at 11 AM in the OLPH rectory,

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy of Brooklyn returned
from the Easter break ready to face the challenges of the NY State
test. The English Language Arts Test and Math Test were
administered to Grades 4,6, and 8. Our students put in their
greatest efforts in completing these tests.
Pilgrimage to the Day of Prayer in honor of Our Lady of All
Nations at the National Blue Army Shrine in Washington, NJ, on
Saturday, May 30, at 7 AM; bus leaving from St. Patrick’s,

O.L.P.H. Catholic Academy is planning a Bouncy Spectacular on
May 30. The fun will last from 1 PM to 7 PM in our schoolyards.
There will be food, games and lots of fun for all. Mark your calendar

O.L.P.H. C.A.B. is currently accepting registration for the school
year 2015-2016. Registration for grades Nursery to Grade 8 is
ongoing. Many seats have already been filled. Don't delay! We
have a Chinese translator available Tuesday and Thursday

The OLPH Circle of Friends next trip will be to Sands Casino
in Bethlehem, PA, on Wednesday, May 20. The bus will
leave from in front of the Church (5th Avenue between
59th & 60th St) at 9:30 AM, and will return 6 hours from
arrival time. The cost of the bus is $38, which includes bus
fare and $30 free slot-play and $5 food voucher. Please call

Last weekend there were 3,010 people who came to
OLPH for the celebration of the Eucharist. The total

Nuestra Rifa de Pentecostés comenzo hoy! Por tan

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas:
Hoy es Domingo del Buen Pastor, nuestro Evangelio de
hoy nos lleva a reflexionar sobre Jesucristo, que es nuestro
Buen Pastor. También puedes estar consciente que nuestro
Santo Padre ha designado este año como el "Año de la Vida
Consagrada", este es un año en que celebramos aquellos
hombres y mujeres que han dedicado su vida al servicio de la
Iglesia a través de la vocación a la vida religiosa. Nosotros aquí,
en Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro hemos sido bendecidos
al tener dos comunidades religiosas que nos sirven desde los
inicios de nuestra parroquia hace más de cien años. Nuestra
Comunidad Redentorista y las Hermanas de San José fundarón
esta parroquia y han compartido en este ministerio casi desde el
principio. Dado que este es el Domingo del Buen Pastor,
pensamos que sería un buen momento para honrar y celebrar
nuestras comunidades religiosas que han pastoreado esta
parroquia desde el principio.
¿Qué es la vida consagrada? Se compone de aquellos
hombres y mujeres que han aceptado el llamado a vivir en
comunidad religiosa destinados a los votos de pobreza, castidad
y obediencia. Cada comunidad tiene un carisma especial o
distintivo de llamada que se origina con el fundador de la
comunidad. Nosotros los Redentoristas fuimos fundados por
San Alfonso en Scala, Italia el 9 de Noviembre de 1732. Fue el
sueño de San Alfonso que nuestro ministerio sea a los más
necesitados del Evangelio, los olvidados o rechazados por otros.
La vida religiosa ha sido siempre una parte de la iglesia; es un
llamado especial para aquellos que desean ir más allá de lo
mínimo en su servicio a Cristo. Nosotros los religiosos se nos
pide dar testimonio de Cristo por nuestra vida comunitaria y a
través de la vida diaria de nuestros votos. Lo que hace que
nuestro ministerio sea tan especial es que no surge sólo de
nuestro amor a Jesucristo, sino de nuestro deseo de ministrar
juntos, como comunidad consagrada por los votos religiosos en
el seguimiento de Jesucristo. Buscamos religiosamente seguir a
Cristo más de cerca mediante la profesión de los votos y para
enriquecer el Cuerpo de Cristo con el don de nuestra
consagración. Como otros, también nosotros somos pastores de
la Iglesia, sino que ministramos de una manera especial como
miembros de una comunidad consagrada.
Tal vez usted podría estar interesado en servir a la
Iglesia por el don de la vida religiosa? Tal vez usted ya ha
elegido el camino a la vocación al matrimonio, la paternidad, y
otras formas de servicio a la Iglesia; si es así, tal vez hoy puede
orar por más vocaciones a la vida religiosa.

La Escuela Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro Academia Católica
de Brooklyn regresó de la Pascua listos para enfrentar los retos de la
prueba de estado de Nueva York. La prueba de Arte de Lengua de
Inglés y la Prueba de Matemáticas que fueron administrados a los
grados 4, 6 y 8. Nuestros estudiantes ponen sus mayores esfuerzos
en la realización de estas pruebas.
La Escuela de O.L.P.H. Academia Católica está planeando un dia de
Rebote Espectacular el 30 de Mayo de 2015. La diversión durará de
1:00-7:00 en el patio de la escuela. Habrá comida, juegos y mucha
diversión para todos. Marque su calendario para que no se pierda la
diversión!!!
La Escuela de O.L.P.H. C.A.B. Actualmente está aceptando la
inscripción para el año escolar 2015-2016. La inscripción para los
grados desde Jardin de niños hasta el grado 8 está en curso.
