Team Canada to Play International U-17 Demonstration Event
OTTAWA, ON, June 1, 2015 - On Friday May 29, the Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) Board of Directors approved a plan
to send an Under-17 Men's Indoor Team Canada to compete in an international demonstration event. Team Canada
Chairman Dean French presented the plan to the CLA Board of Directors as the first step in establishing what the CLA and
Team Canada hopes will eventually lead to a FIL U17 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship.
The international demonstration will be held in conjunction with the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in
Syracuse, USA. Team Canada has contacted the Iroquois Nationals and will be inviting the USA and the Czech Republic.
Canada will select the team of U-17 players through a tryout camp to be held in the Greater Toronto Area on August 9-10,
2015 following the conclusion of the CLA's 2015 Midget National Championships. The player criterion has been set and is
focused on athletes who have played or are currently playing for their Member Association's provincial midget team.
Players who wish to try out may include all current and former Midget Box Provincial Team players from the following birth
years 1999, 1998 and 1997 (born on or after September 1, 1997).
The CLA will look to select the coaching and support staff for the team immediately. Coach and support staff applications
are available here and are due to the CLA by June 13, 2015. The player application process will be released in the coming
days and will be available on lacrosse.ca at:
www.lacrosse.com/view/cla/mens-box/2015-u17-team-canada.
"I’m excited and want to thank the Canadian Lacrosse Association Board of Directors for supporting this event. This is a
fantastic opportunity to showcase the up and coming young lacrosse talent we have across Canada and is a tremendous
first step for future plans," said French moments after the plan was approved. "Team Canada Lacrosse certainly sees the
creation of an Under-17 national indoor team as a key component of the development of our athletes. It will allow
Canadian lacrosse athletes the opportunity to grow through a high performance program exposing them to world-class
coaches and creating a solid core of athletes aimed at one day making the senior national team. Not to be overlooked, it
allows our national team coaches a way to scout at an earlier age and encourage our young athletes to strive for greater
heights." continued French.
Once the schedule of events has been confirmed dates and times will be posted online . Be sure to check back on
