From the Principal’s Desk
I will be on leave at the beginning of term
2 for 4-weeks and Gillian Caithness will be
the Acting Principal during this period.
During this time Gillian’s class will be
taught by Leilani Butler. Please support
Gillian and Leilani in their new roles next
term.
It was great to see our new building arrive
last week. I believe they will be available
for staff and students on the first day of
term 2.
We are all looking forward to getting in there!
Student Support Group meetings
Teachers aim to meet with parents at least once a term for Student Support Group
(SSG) meetings. The purpose of these meetings is to consult with parents about the
learning goals and progress of students. The SSG meeting is a great opportunity for
parents to support their children at school.
I think everyone has had at least one SSG meeting this term – please let your teacher
or me know if this is not the case and we will organise a meeting as soon as possible.

Words on Wellbeing
Good Manners
Last week I had the privilege of visiting Loaves and
Fishes. One of our students was working there with
other members of the community; some volunteers,
some in management and some just coming in to
donate or to say ''hello''. It made me proud to see many
young people working together in harmony and using
''good manners''. What a difference when social
competencies are in place! A simple ''please and
thanks'' makes working a pleasant experience. I noticed
that there were plenty of smiling faces and offers of
assistance, when things were tough. Again, I thought
of the school values and how this particular student
was being respectful, responsible, safe and learning a
new task.
When our students go out into the workplace, they are
guided and mentored. But nothing is more important
than simply using good manners! We are often judged
on first impressions, sometimes unfairly, but a student
who is positive, eager to learn and kind to others, will
be valued in any workplace. They are certainly praised
and celebrated at school!
It made me think that our sense of wellbeing is
enhanced simply by the way we work, play and help
each other. So with that in mind, it is never too late to
remember the basics we are taught at home: say
""please"" when you ask for something and always
"thank you"" when you receive it. Be assured, teachers
love to work in partnership with parents. We support
‘good manners’ at school just as much as you like to
see these at home.
It has been so lovely to chat with a number of parents.
Please know the door is open and you are welcome.

Some of the reasons students have been given

others, displaying good behaviour, following
instructions, showing persistence, showing
empathy, caring for others, helping without
being asked, being part of the team and
