Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Staff
SPIRIT OF PRENDIVILLE
“Prendiville Spirit is the bond shared between all students and staff. When
you see a lost Year 7 and a Year 12 helping them, this is Prendiville Spirit.
When you see a teacher staying behind after school to help that one
student, this is Prendiville Spirit. At carnivals when you see an entire house
cheering for one team mate, this is Prendiville Spirit. No matter where
you’re from, what you look like, how popular you are, we are all like a
Prendiville family joined together by Prendiville Spirit.” (Kate Lockhart MC1)
Welcome back to school. I trust you have had a wonderful Easter and
Holiday break. Classes resumed and Week One held many events which
highlighted the great Prendiville Spirit.
Cross Country: Over 400 students volunteered to participate in the House
Cross Country held on Friday after school.
Inclusive Games: Students from the Education
participated in the annual inclusive games day.
Support
Centre
ANZAC Ceremony: Our students participated in a moving ANZAC
remembrance ceremony highlighted by student leadership, War Veteran
speeches, the playing of the Last Post and the placing of poppies on an
ANZAC Cove mural.
Hairspray: Preparations continued for the College Musical. We wish the
staff, cast, crew and band all the best for the performances to be held next
week.
CAS Sport Champion School Term One: Congratulations to all students
who participated in any CAS Sport team in Term One. Prendiville Catholic
College was awarded overall champion school for Term One sport.
LifeLink Launch: Students and staff attended the annual Life Link launch
held at Aranmore College. At the launch, Archbishop Tim Costello
reminded us that we must become BIG HEARTED people who have a
sense of service to others. He stated that a commitment service to others
is a key characteristic of our faith.
Parents and Friends: A large turnout of parents began planning for the
next major community building parent run event – the Family Quiz Night.
The Quiz Night will be a wonderful opportunity for parents, students and
staff to enjoy each other’s company at a fun Quiz Night.

SERVICE LEARNING AT PRENDIVILLE
Hello everyone,
I would like to say a big thank you for all of your generous efforts donating to Project Compassion
last term. The final donations have been calculated and the total we have raised for Caritas is
$8,055.75, a marvellous effort. This money will be used by Caritas to help fund its many projects
both in Australia and overseas, including helping in Nepal after the recent Earthquake disaster.

SCIENCE AT PRENDIVILLE
Year 11 and 12 Marine and Maritime Studies Camp – Geographe Bay
Week 8, Term 1 saw the Year 11 and 12 Marine
and Maritime Studies students head to
Geographe Bay for their annual Snorkelling Trip.
Prior to departure much time was spent planning
the event. Students created their own fishing rigs
in class and snorkelling skills were practiced at
the pool and local beaches during term. As the
trip grew closer, the class began looking at the
weather forecast. For the first time since the trips
inception in the college calendar three years ago,
the camp was blessed with typical down south
weather. Small swell and amazing pristine visibility allowed students to explore some of the
regions more spectacular parts of the coastline. Snorkelling took place in protected bays around
Canal Rocks and Yallingup Lagoon. Students were also kept busy with many other land-based
activities. Fishing, crabbing, and a tour of the Busselton Jetty’s underwater observatory ensured
students were kept very busy.
The story of the Deep South was told and many fun team
games ensured students were given the best chance to
experience the extraordinary south west. Students gained
much from the camp and many are already planning their
next trip with family or friends. Special mention to Jordan
Allan, for his proper prior preparation and the initiative he
showed on the trip. Each year the trip will continue to rotate
between Rottnest and Geographe Bay to ensure students are
able to visit two different places as part of the course.
A big thanks to Anita Relo-Fisher and ex-student Janiece Walker for the expertise they provided.

Scitech Brain Storm Challenge Day
On Tuesday 28th April, I had the privilege of escorting a small group of Year 8 academic extension
students to Scitech. Students competed in a range of fun and hands-on activities allowing them to
further develop their investigative and communication skills. Some of the challenges set on the day
included programming a robot to carry out a special “dance”, constructing the tallest possible
spaghetti tower and applying chemical principles to work out a range of unknown test samples in
the laboratory. In particular, it was pleasing to see the development of team building skills and how
students could also work independently to master set tasks.
The excursion was a great success with all students enjoying the day immensely. A huge honour
to take such a dedicated group of students. Well done to all involved!

ITALIAN & ART STUDY TOUR 2015
Over the April school holidays 34 students of Italian and Art from Years 10, 11 and 12 spent a
whirlwind 3 weeks travelling through Italy. They had the opportunity of visiting most of the major
cities and sites, including Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, Florence, Assisi, Siena and
Venice. Students also experienced life in an Italian family and attended a language/art school for a
week. The students were beautifully behaved and truly excellent ambassadors of their school and
country.
Personally, I would like to extend a huge thanks to Mr Chris Longshaw, Mr Vincent Restifo and Mrs
Judy Monte for giving up their holidays and leaving their families to accompany us and help make
this trip possible.
As can be seen from some Year 11 comments below, it would
appear that the best way to describe the trip seems to be amazing, wonderful and brilliant.
Paula O' Donnell
Head of LOTE
Italy was a wonderful experience and the sites were beautiful. We
went to the most amazing places such as Rome, Sorrento, Amalfi
Coast, Florence and Venice. In Mondavio we got to experience
life as Italians, when we lived with Italian families for a week. They
were wonderful people. As well as being educational, it was also
extremely fun and I will remember this trip forever!
Deanna Carrasco
Going to Italy was an amazing cultural experience that not only
gave us beautiful memories to last a lifetime, but expanded our
Italian language skills. I definitely recommend it!
Amanda Odina
For me the Italy trip was a wonderful experience filled with amazing memories. Overall my
favourite places were Sorrento and Amalfi, which were absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait to go back
to Italy and would recommend the trip to anyone continuing Italian or Art in upper school.
Emma Black
The trip to Italy was brilliant. I really enjoyed Sorrento (the views
are amazing!) and would love to go back. I’m really grateful for
the experience.
Ashleigh Etto
The study trip to Italy was an amazing experience. My favourite
places were Venice and Sorrento. It was great to fully
understand the Italian culture.
Tiahna Giuttari
Travelling around Italy and seeing all the famous monuments
and sites first hand was the best experience of my life! It was an
amazing opportunity in which I learned so much and had the
greatest time filled with culture, good food, great people and a
beautiful time.
Francesca Harris
Hi, I’ve just spent 3 amazing weeks in Italy. My favourite places
were Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Both places were
magnificent because of the beauty surrounding the little towns.
Overall the 2015 Italian/ Art Study tour was a huge success and I would recommend it to any
students wanting to improve their Italian.
Callum Haigh
For me the Italian study trip was the best experience ever! Although the
whole trip was amazing, I liked the day we went to the Amalfi Coast the
best. The views along the coastline were beautiful! I would definitely
recommend junior students continue Italian, so they can also experience
this!
Alyssa Monte
I think the Italy trip was an incredible experience to better my Italian and
experience the Italian culture. My favourite place was Rome and my
favourite food was the anchovies!
Sophie Gillingham
The Italy trip was an amazing experience and all the places were beautiful.
I had such a good time and would love to go back.
Deanne Austin
The absolute best 3 weeks of my life! It was amazing to be surrounded by Italian culture and
experience new foods, places and people. The views we saw were unbelievable and I’ll never
forget it. I highly recommend it!
Maisie Evason.

The Winter Season is underway with 3 days of Trials happening this week. I hope all teams are ready
and raring to go for our First fixture against Peter Moyes next week. It is going to be a huge Term of
sport with the addition of both the Year 7 and Year 8/9 Boys AFL teams as well as a 7B Girls Netball
team to the CAS program. I would like to wish all students who were successfully selected in one of our
CAS teams all the best for the upcoming season.
Interhouse X Country
Last Friday it was fantastic to see so many staff and students participating in the Interhouse X Country
Race. Whether as an Official or competitor, the final tally was close to 450 individuals making the vent a
huge success. I encourage all students and indeed parents to please check the results and notify
myself of any errors or discrepancies. Results can be viewed on the Prendiville SPORTAL page on
CONEQT.
100k Club
Following the X Country race, our attention well and truly shifts to the ACC X Country carnival in week
6. Many students will be selected for the Interschool team based on their performance at last week’s
Interhouse race and as a result we would like to see these students attending some of the trainings
happening before school on Monday Wednesday and Friday morning. With only 4 weeks until the
carnival itself training is going to be crucial in maximising performances on the day. 100K Cub is also
open to any students of the College however a permission slip must be collected from me in the PE
Office before students can commence training.
Sporting Excellence
Logan Foley (Year 7) recently had a very successful performance at the Junior State Athletics
Championships. Logan Won Gold Medals in both the Javelin and Shot Put, A silver Medal in the Discus
and a Bronze Medal in the High Jump. As a result he also qualified for the Australian Junior
Championships.
Ryan Boultbee (Year 7) had an outstanding competition in the State Gymnastics Qualifiers in his
chosen discipline of Trampolining. After winning 4 Gold medals, 2 Silver medals and a Bronze medal he
has been selected in the WA State Team to compete at the National Championships in Melbourne later
this year.
Michael Ross (Year 7) has earned selection in the Western Australian Team to compete at the
National Judo Championships. We wish him all the best for this upcoming competition later this year.

It is with great pleasure to announce that come Wednesday 6 May our production of ‘Hairspray’ will
hit the stage in our Performing Arts Centre. Of the 1500 tickets on offer less than 50 remain.

The show is coming together nicely and the entire cast, crew and band are working feverishly to
add the finishing touches.
Please enjoy the variety of ‘behind-the-scenes’ snapshots below, and I hope to see you at one of
the performances next week.

Concert Band Program
The Concert Band Program at Prendiville consists of over 100
students participating in one (or more!) of three ensembles:
Training Band, Junior Winds and Senior Concert Winds. These
ensembles have been rehearsing weekly under the direction of
Miss Ellen Broderick and Mr. Peter Sunman. Concert Winds have
had two major performances this year already, performing at the
annual Twilight Sounds concert, and the Anzac Day Assembly.
Both Junior and Concert Winds are eagerly preparing for the
Catholic Performing Arts Festival and the ABODA Festival in
Term 3 under the baton of Mr. Sunman, whilst Training Band are
excited to show off all their hard work at their first open rehearsal
for parents in Week 10.
From Our Students
I love coming in for concert

This week, we look at how you are going with your digital citizenship at Prendiville.
School provides some definite boundaries when using your iPad – now I the time to check to see
whether you are working within these boundaries.
-
Is your iPad enrolled, and in a sturdy case that
protects the screen, back and corners?
Have you got Email/GoodReader/Notability set up
and working?
Do you know your way around Coneqt and how to
use it?
Do you check your Direqt messages and Notices
regularly?
Do you engage in responsible behaviour on the
school network?
Check the Responsible Use of ICT Policy and the iPad
Code of Conduct if you are unsure.
However, you also have to learn how to swim. What
decisions do you make online that count toward your digital
footprint and help to build the picture of who you are?

Can you create work on your iPad that you can be proud of?
Do you think about your reputation and your future before you post?
If you need help with iPads or just want to ask a question, feel free to drop into the iPad
