PROPHETIC ANOINTING
The solemnity of today’s
readings invites us into silent contemplation of the
mystery of our redemption.
There are so many levels on
which to understand the
events of the Passion. The
woman who anoints Jesus
acts prophetically in a way that the other disciples do not yet grasp. Anointing is for priests,
prophets, and kings, and also for the preparation of the dead. It is for healing and for holiness. Her action acknowledges the imminent
events of the passion and death of the Lord,
and points toward his resurrection and triumph
over evil and death. He is priest and victim,
prophet and God, King and Lord. All these things
are acknowledged in her prophetic anointing.

La solemnidad de las lecturas de hoy nos invita a una contemplación silenciosa del
misterio de nuestra redención. Hay
tantas maneras de comprender los
sucesos de la Pasión. La mujer que
unge a Jesús se comporta proféticamente y de un modo que los otros discípulos aún
no comprenden. La unción es para los sacerdotes, los profetas y los reyes, y también para la
preparación de los muertos. Es para la sanación
y la santidad. Su acción reconoce los sucesos de
la pasión y la muerte del Señor que se avecinan,
y señala hacia la resurrección y el triunfo sobre
el mal y la muerte. Jesús es sacerdote y víctima, profeta y Dios, Rey y Señor. Todas estas
cosas se hacen explícitas en su unción profética.

Adoration takes place every Wednesday
evening from 8:00 – 10:00 pm in the Church
but on April 1st it will start at 9:00pm after the
Passion Play in Spanish. Come join us as we worship our Lord together as one community.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
El Domingo de Ramos o Domingo de Ramos es una solemnidad extraña en el calendario cristiano. Al conmemorar la entrada triunfal de Jesús en Jerusalén, la Iglesia nos recuerda
lo fácil que es darle la espalda a Jesús. Las misas de este domingo, cuando se celebran de acuerdo a las normas, comienzan
en la calle, fuera del templo, en el mundo. Allí se proclama el
Evangelio de la entrada a Jerusalén, se bendicen los ramos o
palmas, luego, con cantos alegres y llenos de hosannas los fieles entran al templo para continuar con la celebración de la
misa, en la cual, la lectura de la Pasión tiene un lugar prominente.
La lectura de la Pasión está dividida entre el narrador, Jesús,
los personajes de la Pasión y el pueblo. De nuevo, si la misa se
celebra propiamente, desde sus bancas, los fieles proclaman las
palabras del pueblo, gritando: “¡Crucifíquenlo!”
Los dos evangelios de este domingo nos recuerdan lo fácil
que es abandonar al Señor. Los mismos cristianos que afuera
del Templo le cantaban hosanna piden su muerte dentro del
Templo. Los mismos que en la calle le celebraban con ramos, lo
coronan con espinas en el santuario.

FIRST LETTER TO THE CORINTHIANS
Our Spring Bible Study with Deacon Doug
starts on Monday, April 6th. In this series we will
study Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians and we
will get an insight into the life of an early Christian
community.

Room of the Parish Center on the following Monday evenings

Come join us and bring your Bible as together we come to better
understand Paul’s character and his teachings as we explore the divisions and difficulties in the early Church.

TIERRA SANTA
Your help is needed to help protect the Holy Places of the
Holy Land. Your gift will give life to some and hope to others,
lighting candles of faith in darkened shrines and lives. Even
becoming the very bread and wine of our daily Eucharist.
At this sacred time of year, when the annual Collection for
the Shrines (and people) of the Holy Land is taken up in this
parish, please respond as generously as you can.
The collection will take place on Friday, April 3rd.
Necesitamos su ayuda para proteger y ayudar a los lugares
en la Tierra Santa. Su obsequio dará vida a algunos y esperanza
a otros, encendiendo velas de fe en los altares oscuros y en las
vidas. Siendo así como el mismo pan y vino de nuestra Eucaristía diaria.
Durante este tiempo sagrado del año, cuando se pide la
ayuda anual para las capillas(y las personas) de Tierra Santa en
esta parroquia, por favor contribuya tan generosamente como
le sea posible.
Esta colecta se hará el próximo viernes, 3 de abril.
El Ministerio de Duelo, les invita a su reunion semanal de apoyo, que se lleva a cabo todos
los Viernes a las 7:00 de la noche, en el “Large
Room” de esta parroquia de St. Elizabeth. ¿Qué podemos hacer despues de la
muerte de un conyuge, un padre, una madre, un hijo(a), un
hermano(a)?.¿Qué hacer en caso de un divorcio o
una separación . Podemos apoyarnos unos a otros, y aprender
a dejar el sufrimiento atrás y llegar a ser un sobreviviente
con paz, sabiendo que la persona que perdimos todavía nos
inspira y esta presente en nosotros, que amamos mucho y
compartimos mucho y al recordarlo dejaremos ir nuestro
dolor. No espere mas, es insano y destructivo el esconder
nuestro dolor o ser fuertes por otros, con esto no sanara

LENTEN FASTING & ABSTINENCE REGULATIONS
No meat may be eaten on days of abstinence.
Catholics 14 years and older are bound to abstain from
meat. Invalids, pregnant and nursing mothers are exempt.
Meat is considered to be the flesh and organs of
mammals and fowl. Moral theologians have traditionally
considered this also to forbid soups or gravies made
from them. Salt and freshwater species of fish, amphibians, reptiles and shellfish are permitted, as are animal-derived products such
as gelatin, butter, cheese and eggs, which do not have any meat taste.
Fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Fasting means having only one full meal to maintain one's strength. Two
smaller, meatless and penitential meals are permitted according to one's
needs, but they should not together equal the one full meal. Eating solid foods
between meals is not permitted.
Catholics from age 18 through age 59 are bound to fast. Again, invalids, pregnant and nursing mothers are exempt.

It should be noted that Fridays throughout the year are designated days of
penance. The Code of Canon Law states that Friday is a day of abstinence
from meat throughout the year. The American Bishops have allowed us to
choose a different form of penance rather than abstaining from meat, but there
must be some form of penance, for this is the day we commemorate Christ's
suffering and death. The bishops stress that "among the works of voluntary self
-denial and personal penance...we give first place to abstinence from flesh
meat" (Pastoral Statement on Fasting and Abstinence).

Ayuno El Miércoles De Ceniza Y Viernes Santo.
Ayunar consiste en comer una comida sin carne completa para mantener
las fuerzas. También se pueden comer dos comidas pequeñas sin carne
según se necesite. Sin embargo, las dos comidas juntas no pueden igualar
una comida completa. Además, no se puede tomar alimento sólido entre
comidas.

El Miércoles de Ceniza y todos los viernes de la Cuaresma son días de

Católicos de 18 a 59 años están obligadas a hacer ayuno. Nuevamente,

Se debe hacer notar que todos los viernes del año están designados
como días de penitencia. Es más, el Código de Derecho Canónico declara
que el viernes es día de abstinencia de carne durante todo el año. Los Obispos de Estados Unidos nos han dado la opción de escoger una práctica
penitencial diferente a la abstinencia de carne; sin embargo, todavía se debe
hacer penitencia de alguna manera. Pues, los viernes, conmemoramos la
pasión y la muerte de Cristo. Los Obispos recalcan que “entre las obras
voluntarias de mortificación y penitencia personal…debemos darle primer
lugar a la abstinencia de carne.” (Declaración Pastoral sobre el Ayuno y la
Abstinencia).

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Is today “Palm Sunday” or “Passion Sunday”?
Though now known officially as Palm Sunday of the
Passion of the Lord, confusion is understandable,
since before the 1969 reform of the calendar two
separate Sundays bore these titles. Passion Sunday
was a week before Palm Sunday. To add to the confusion, the Gospel accounts of the Passion of the
Lord were not read on Passion Sunday, but on Palm
Sunday! On Passion Sunday, the cross and statues
were veiled in full purple drapes. The organ had
fallen silent at the beginning of Lent, and now the
sanctuary bells were replaced by wooden clappers.
The introit (opening chant) for the old Mass of Passion Sunday hints at a reason for reform: “Do me
justice, O God, and fight my fight against a faithless
people” (Psalm 42). This liturgy was laden with references to the “infidelity” of the Jews, a theme that
gave rise to inflammatory preaching and, in some
places, attacks against the persons and property of
the Jewish people. This does not stand as a
“treasure” of any sort in our tradition. Our authentic
tradition, rather, is the ability to reflect and repent
and to seek reconciliation with the Jews, our brothers and sisters in the love and service of God.
