Principal’s Message
Wet Weather
A reminder that the students stay on the
verandahs and eat in the wet areas when it is
raining. We do not allow children to play in the
rain. If the weather is dry they go out to play. It
is warm woolly jumper weather.
NAPLAN Testing – Year 3 & 5
Our year 3 & 5 students have completed their
NAPLAN testing.
Well done to all of our
students for their hard work.
The testing was spread over four days. Results
of the test will be available to parents mid-way
through September. The papers are sent away
for marking.
WINTER – School Uniform
Cold weather is officially upon us!
Just a reminder to wear your warm Samson PS
jackets and tracksuits pants.

Could parents please check that students have
their name written on their belongings. We have
many jumpers being left on the oval that do not
have names on them.
LOST PROPERTY
At the moment we have a large amount of lost
property. Some items of clothing have names
on them but most don’t. At the end of term all
remaining uniform items will be given to the
uniform shop to sell. All other items will be
donated to a charity shop.

For the parents who would like to
send an SMS in the morning for
your child’s absence, the phone

Historical Fremantle Buildings.

and 30th June 2012.
Applications for Pre Primary in 2016
Parents of children eligible to attend Pre Primary
in 2016 are invited to complete an Application
for Enrolment from now until closing date,

community who does not receive this newsletter
but has a child who would be eligible for
Kindergarten next year. It would be appreciated
if you could pass this information on to them.
CAR PARK
The start of the wet weather means more
cars dropping off students and picking up in
the afternoon. Please be vigilant in watching
students getting out of or into cars. Parents also
need to park safely and legally. Do not park in
the school staff car park or on the grassed
areas.
The car park is not a place to turn around. Cars
are not to drive through the staff car park.

CANTEEN CHANGES
Our canteen has been revamped.
There is a country
feel to the new
canteen.
The
students will be
voting on a new
name. If you have
any ideas please
let us know your
suggestions for a
name.
Here is the spread
of food available at
recess from the
canteen
throughout winter.
At the beginning of the year the P & C set up a
Canteen committee to review the canteen in our
school. A group of interested parents from the P
& C and canteen helpers have been meeting
regularly to discuss the purpose of the canteen.
Jess Tercier, Cathy McGreal, Cheryl Van Sant,
Maree Harrison, Michelle Jenkins, Karen Storer,
Fleur Hargreaves and Kylie Patience have
worked hard to finalise the winter menu. A copy
will be sent home for each family.
Recipes WILL BE available on both the school
and P & C websites soon for parents who have
children with allergies.
There are many
homemade items on the menu.
Where possible the canteen will use the excess
produce from the garden.
For example,
pumpkins from our garden are being made into
pumpkin soup. Mrs Dwyer will also be making
some of the recipes in the cooking lessons with
the classes, so that students can taste the
canteen delights.
New items on the recess menu include:
Sweet potato chips, pumpkin scones, beetroot
hommus with vegetable sticks, spinach fritatas,
pumpkin soup, zucchini slice, fruit and yoghurt,
quiches and more….. Everything is 50c or $1.
Our year 6 students have developed a survey
and a group of them presented their findings to
the canteen committee on Tuesday. They will
also be conducting a vote on a new name for
the canteen before the end of term.
Well done to Mrs Van Sant for her hard work in
the canteen.

Our School Our Future
.
This year Spinal Health Week 2015 runs from May
25 to 31, with the theme ‘Get Your Happy Back’.
Every day more and more Australians experience
disabling low back pain, neck pain and headaches,
limiting their ability to work and engage in an active
healthy life.
One explanation for this is the impact an increasingly
sedentary lifestyle has on postural fitness. Think
about all the hours you spend each day sitting at
work or school, on a computer or other mobile
device, watching television or playing computer
games. Poor posture increases pressure on your
spine which can cause low back pain, neck pain,
headaches and fatigue.
Low back pain is a growing problem and now ranks
second in Australasia and seventh in the world
according to the World Health Organisation’s latest
Global Burden of Disease study. Neck pain is also
problematic ranking ninth in Australasia and 21st in
the world.
Head Lice
Within a school environment head lice is a
constant issue. Please check your child’s or
children’s
hair
regularly.
FURTHER
INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE
SCHOOL WEBSITE.
OT VISIT – ALEX GUIMELLI
See on the school website the parent pack sent
to us from Alex after his visit. It will help parents
with tips for activities if you are concerned about
your child’s gross or fine motor skill
development.
IMMUNISATION
If enrolling a kindy student parents will need to
provide the child’s immunisation history. Check
the details on the Health Department Website as
you can now obtain these records from the
website.
Don’t forget you can find Joel Candy our
Chaplain in the office in the middle block if you
would like to talk with him. Also if you would like
your child to talk with Joel, you can organise this
with him directly.
BRAVE – Anxiety Program for children
Thank you to all of the parents who attended the
session with Joel. For any parents interested
the BRAVE program is self-paced and the
tutorial is something that you can check out at
home.
School Council Nomination
