Volume 8 - Issue 2 - Summer 2015 Fairborn Launches Civic Engagement Tool, mySidewalk ci.fairborn.oh.us Create an account: • Go to: fairbornoh. mysidewalk.com • Fill in required fields • Verify account through email • Engage or Respond Fairborn recently launched a new public engagement tool and is already seeing good public participation. The social media platform, mySidewalk, acts similar to that of a concrete sidewalk, but in a virtual setting, connecting one another to residents, stakeholders, businesses, organizations and city government. The ‘Reimagine Fairborn’ page allows the city to reach out to its residents asking residents to provide their input and ideas. Input may then be used to help solve local issues or perhaps spark a new initiative. For instance, the Parks and Recreation Division is currently seeking input regarding smoking in public play areas utilizing a simple poll along with the ability to leave additional data. Data collected from this survey will then be used to determine next steps taken. As Fairborn continues to attract new businesses and grow its population, leaders want to know how citizens feel about issues and use this information in the decision making process. If making a council meeting to discuss your concerns does not work out with your schedule, simply log on to ‘Reimagine Fairborn’, respond to a poll, and provide any additional information or input. This page is also designed to share information on upcoming initiatives so users can be ‘in the know’ and participate with the input process to making Fairborn a great place to live. Fairborn Adds New Online Financial Transparency Platform, OpenGov In addition to garnering resident opinions and sharing information about upcoming initiatives through mySidewalk, Fairborn is also moving forward with offering citizens a view of the ‘city checkbook’. This online module, OpenGov, scheduled for release this month, will provide residents, elected officials, and staff access to the city’s budget information in a user-friendly digital format. Data from the city will be uploaded to OpenGov’s cloud-based platform and transformed into intuitive and interactive reports that show taxpayers how money is collected and spent. Residents will be able to track the city’s finances on a month-to-month basis as data is uploaded. As well, users can compare previous years spending and revenue detail, create multiple views of budget data, and review trends over time. Data can likewise be reviewed by fund, department, expense or revenue type. Look for a link on the City of Fairborn’s main webpage for access to this online tool: ci.fairborn.oh.us. Proposed Street Program List for 2016 Spangler Road (2015) The Fairborn Engineering Division continues moving forward with updating and upgrading city roadways. While currently in the midst of its 2015 Curb and Sidewalk Program and Street Program, the preliminary list for roadway rehabilitation has been determined for 2016. Streets are selected based on the Pavement Condition Index or PCI. The PCI factors in the structural integrity, roadway functionality, overall ride-ability, construction details, traffic loads, and other measurable indices. PCI ratings range from 0 - 100, with 100 being the best and 40 or below being undriveable. After the PCI process is complete, each street receives a PCI rating that helps determine its current condition and needs. The data collection process is performed every three years, with the last data collected in 2013. City engineers utilize the PCI along with traffic counts, visual inspections, economic development opportunities, problem areas and citizen comments to develop a comprehensive street resurfacing list annually. The roadways will receive different treatments based on their PCI. Some of these treatments include microsurfacing, milling and resurfacing, full depth reclamation, joint repairs, and asphalt overlays. HOME REHABILITATION REPAIR/REPLACE HVAC NEW ROOF SEWER LINE REPAIR WINDOWS/ SIDING ELECTRICAL UPGRADE The Fairborn City jail scored a 100 percent in their recent state inspection for a 12-day jail facility. The state inspector found Fairborn in compliance with 64 standards selected from the Minimum Standards for Jail in Ohio. Captain Terry Bennington stated that the inspector contacted the police department to request approval with sharing its jail policies and procedures with another northern Ohio jail since Fairborn reflects 100 percent compliance with state standards. “We have a clean and well run facility,” states Bennington, “We are proud to be able to have a policy that has been looked at to be a model for other agencies in the state; the jail inspector has our policy at his disposal for other jail facilities.” The state mandates policies for 12-day holding facilities. The Fairborn jail mirrors those policies which include standards such as reception, classification, security, housing, sanitation, medical, food service, administrative segregation, staffing, and staff training. Both documentation and demonstration that the policies are practiced in the way in which they are written are factors in the scoring. NEIGHBORHOOD BETTERMENT 44 W.
