DAYBORO STATE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER No: 17 02 JUNE, 2015
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
It was a pleasure for our school to be invited to be
part of the performance program for Dayboro Day.
Our School Band and Choir lead the program for
the day performing before a large gathered crowd.
A big thank you is extended to Natalie O’Boyle,
our Music Coordinator, for preparing our students
for performance and to Mrs Liz Baskin for her
work
with
conducting
the
school
choir,
and
with short notice, our school band. Both groups
performed in a professional and admirable manner
and certainly demonstrated much pride in showcasing
their talents to the local community. Well done,
everyone!
Instrumental Music
Mrs Catherine Hicks will be at Dayboro SS for the next two Fridays working with our
Instrumental Music Students. Lessons will return to a Monday when Mr Adams returns
from leave on 15 June. We welcome Mrs Hicks to our school.
This Friday is French Day at Dayboro
This Friday we are inviting our students to turn Red, White and
Blue as we celebrate everything French at our school. This
French Free Dress Day is an opportunity to wear not only
French colours, but to enjoy the French Fare on sale at our
tuckshop for the Day (remember, all orders for French Food
need to be in by tomorrow). Students in Years 3-6 will also be
treated to a performance by Les Bâtons Français in our school
hall on the day.

TALK ABOUT IT
Year 5 and 6 students received a letter with the
newsletter last week regarding the “Talk About It”
Program.
The “Talk About It” Program will be run for our Year 5
and 6 students on the 11th and 12th June this year. The
program is designed to assist young people develop a
positive attitude towards their own sexuality and
provides them with information on how to look after
themselves during this stage of their development. We
are fortunate to have very experienced educators from
Life Education conducting the sessions.
The first lesson will focus on the physical, social and
emotional changes experienced during puberty and
helping students understand and cope with this
important phase of development. The second session
will focus on the characteristics of healthy relationships,
focussing on friendships.

LUNCH
Friday 5th June 2015
On Friday 5 June all students have the opportunity to
participate in la journée française. Part of our
celebrations includes French dress-up and all children
are encouraged to participate by dressing in a French
themed costume. There are many possibilities, ranging
from the French colours (dark blue, white and red) to a
French character or an item with a French theme.
Some ideas include: The French flag, King Louis XVI,
Queen Marie-Antoinette, a peasant or revolutionary,
Monsieur Guillotine, Joan of Arc, Napoléon, Babar the
Elephant, Madeline, Miss Clavel, the mime artist Marcel
Marceau, World Cup soccer players, Tour de France
cyclists, Grand Prix car drivers, French Open tennis
players, ballet or cancan dancers, skiers, chefs, snails,
frogs, artists, fashion designers or models, Hunchback
of Notre Dame characters, musketeers, Jacques
Cousteau scuba divers, balloonists, scientists like
Louis Pasteur and Marie Curie, French monuments
or items of food.
There will be a French themed Special Lunch available
at the tuckshop, which will include a variety of delicious
French inspired goodies. Miam! Miam! If your child is
participating in the Special Tuckshop please make sure
you order by the due date.
Finally children in Years 3 to 6 will share in the French
fun by enjoying a one hour theatre performance on the
day starting at 2pm. Les Bâtons Français will be
performing an interactive theatre show. The tradition of
French theatre is used to give the students the
opportunity to explore French culture, people and
places, and to stimulate enjoyment and use of a foreign
language without inhibition. Students in Years 3 to 6
need to remember to bring their $5.50 along to pay for
this special performance.

SCHOOL JUMPERS
As winter is now fast approaching, we find that quite a
number of students are arriving at school without
adequate warm clothing. School jumpers may be
obtained from the uniform shop and second hand winter
merchandise is available at a reasonable cost. Please
ensure your child’s name is clearly marked on all
clothing.
STUDENT ABSENCE
Once again we have a very large number of parents
failing to ring the school absence line, if a student is
absent for any reason on any given day. All student
absences must be reported through our absence line.
This service is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a
day. If a student has recorded an ‘unexplained absence’
a letter will be sent home for parents to state a reason
for this absence. Parents must also sign this letter.
Unfortunately, parents are also failing to return these
letters to the school office.
Failure to report will result in your child as being marked
as an ‘unexplained absence’, which will be recorded on
all report cards.

BOOKCLUB
All bookclub orders and payments are due to the office
tomorrow (Wednesday 3rd June).
Please enclose cash with completed order form or
make cheques payable to Scholastic Australia. No late
orders will be accepted after Wednesday.
VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION
The members of the Parents & Citizens Association of
Dayboro State School strongly endorse the request to
you for a voluntary Information & Communication
Technology Contribution in 2015, which you received
home last term.
The contribution of $50 per child is capped at $100 per
family and will be dedicated to a 4 year replacement
schedule for classroom computers used by students.
We currently have 80+ classroom computers on our
network in order to meet the departmental target of one
computer per 5 children.
Thank you to all families who have already paid a
contribution. Contributions can still made at the school
office.

What a fantastic day! Our Bake Sale and Chocolate
Throw stall was a great success. Thank you so much to
everyone who assisted with the Bake Sale and
Chocolate Throw; our students and families who
donated chocolate, volunteers who manned the stall,
those who donated delicious Home Baking, and
everyone who helped to set up/pack up the equipment.
What an amazing effort! You have helped raise around
$2000 (still counting, we’ll let you know!) for our school!
While the P&C can organise things, we simply would
not be able to run them without your incredibly
generous help and support. Our sincere thanks to
everyone involved!
