PRINCIPAL’S PEN
Dear Parents, Families and Community Members,
It has been wonderful to have had the opportunity to talk to
parents this week on their child/ren’s achievements and
progress. Thank you to parents for taking the time to talk to
teachers to celebrate your child/ren’s learning successes and
engage with any learning challenges they may be facing.
organised into a meal deal of sausage on bun, a popper
and an ice-block for $7. We will need parent helpers to
assist home baking and preparation on the day. More
details will follow.
School nurse, Judy Cribb has rescheduled her visit for
Tuesday 19th May. Prep students will have vision and
hearing tests.
Best wishes to those students competing in the Bunya cross P&C
country trials, tomorrow. Good luck Danielle, Dustin A,
Christopher and Lachlan!
The
visit by Annika from Raw Art last Friday was well
received by all students. With the Prep/Year 1 students
engaged in weaving, the Year 2/3/4 students up to their
elbows in clay sculptures and the Year 5/6 students
constructing animal shields, it was a creative hive of activity
on Friday.
Options program for the Year 2-6 students will commence on
Friday and will continue for five weeks. The Options program
gives the students the opportunity to engage in learning in
practical skills. Options run for a number of weeks over
Terms 2 and 3. We are very fortunate to have the support of
our parent and wider community and I thank Mr and Mrs
Strasser, Mrs Donovan and Mrs Beazley for their assistance
this term. This term the options are robotics, sewing and
cross-stitch, woodwork and cake icing.
Curriculum Please find the Annual Implementation Plan
attached to this newsletter. This document outlines our core
priorities for 2015. The Year 3 and 5 students will be
engaging in NAPLAN testing from Tuesday 12th to Thursday
14th May. To assist with students’ preparedness for these
assessments, please ensure your Year 3/5 child has plenty of
sleep and has breakfast each morning. Curriculum tip: There
are many everyday things you can do to encourage literacy
learning. For example, encouraging your child to write and
design for a variety of purposes using print and electronic
resources — invitations, thank you notes, shopping lists,
messages, journals and electronic slide shows.
Mother’s
Day Stall There will be a Mother’s Day Stall at
school on Friday. Gifts will range from $1 to $6 each. Please
send in some money for your child/ren to purchase a small
gift. The students love to ‘go shopping’ for Mother’s Day.
Soccer carnival The soccer carnival for the Rossvale schools
will be held again at Biddeston SS on Wednesday 20th May.
This is for the students in Years 3-6 and involves students
travelling from Brookstead SS, Mount Tyson SS and
Southbrook Central SS to participate in a round robin soccer
carnival. The games have modified rules and playing times.
Thank you to Mr Young for his organisation of this carnival. A
permission slip will be sent home with this newsletter.
Under
8s Day This event will be held on the same day as the
soccer carnival, Wednesday 20th May. Again, students will be

Year 2/3/4 News
The students had a marvellous time with sculpting
their clay animals last week, with excellent results.
We have been reading ‘Bungawitta’ and investigating
characters and how they are portrayed by the
author.
In Mathematics, students have been learning about
number patterns, multiplication and division.
Our Science experiments involving upside down
mungbeans and labyrinths have also kept us busy
thinking scientifically. We have also travelled the
world looking at climate zones this week.
Prep/Year 1 are seeking donations of
lemons for an activity on Under Eights’
Day- Wednesday May 20th. If you can
help, send some along to the Prep-1
classroom.
