Hertfordshire International College (HIC) is currently recruiting for a Marketing Manager, based on campus at
University of Hertfordshire.
Marketing Managers drive the marketing process and assist with the admission activities of the College to which
they are attached as part of a cross-functional team. The MM assists the Regional Director of Marketing and
Admission in the development and implementation of the marketing plan and the management of the
promotional, sales and recruitment operations and budget. The MM is expected to be able to develop effective
business relationships and opportunities, both in the UK and offshore and to implement sales and marketing
strategies that will achieve agreed targets.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:














Possess a Bachelor’s/tertiary degree level qualifications in a services marketing or related discipline,
together with services marketing experience
Have extensive knowledge and experience in using Windows-based software applications
Possess knowledge of Education Services Industry in the UK and overseas education systems
Possess detailed operational knowledge and understanding of the Tier 4 regulations and the QAA’s Code
of Practice
Capability in either Mandarin or Cantonese, both written and spoken
Have administrative experience in a multi-cultural environment
Demonstrate polished interpersonal communication and negotiation skills inclusive of
writing,
communication and presentation skills
Demonstrate a proven ability as a team player
Demonstrate proven ability to organise own workload to cope with simultaneous demands
Demonstrate a flexible attitude to work (e.g., in hours and content), including a willingness to work
weekends and evenings in support of recruitment activities
Demonstrate a proven ability to initiate and implement marketing strategies and sales tactics which
have made a significant contribution to sustainable business growth
Demonstrate innovative thinking and proactive work habits inclusive of an eye for detail and for new
recruitment initiatives
Demonstrate a commitment to self-development to enhance skills and abilities
Have the ability to work to tight deadlines, changing priorities, on their own initiative and to take
responsibility for decisions and outcomes

Purpose of Position
Marketing Managers drive the marketing process and assist with the admission activities of the College to which
they are attached as part of a cross-functional team. The MM assists the Regional Director of Marketing and
Admission in the development and implementation of the marketing plan and the management of the
promotional, sales and recruitment operations and budget. The MM is expected to be able to develop effective
business relationships and opportunities, both in the UK and offshore and to implement sales and marketing
strategies that will achieve agreed targets. Furthermore, they are expected to work as part of the Admission and
Marketing team as well as collaborate closely with the Student Services Team and the University’s admissions and
recruitment staff. The MM will have Virtual Private Network (VPN) access to the students’ records management
system in their respective College and will be expected to process applications using this pathway whilst on the
road. The Marketing Managers are expected to work within the diktats of the Tier 4 regulations and the QAA’s
Code of Practice.

The Marketing Manager (MM) – needs to:
Be self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality and business profit. A
natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance. Mature, credible, and comfortable in dealing
with a wide variety of people including senior company executives. The MM will be reliable, tolerant, and
determined; an empathic communicator, able to see things from the other person's point of view; well-presented
and businesslike; sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel up to two/three weeks at a time within the UK and
overseas; keen for new experience, responsibility and accountability and importantly be able to get on with
others and be a team-player.
Personal Situation
Must be able to spend extended time away from home travelling within the UK and overseas, be able to
commute reliably to office base and work extended hours on occasions when required.
Specific Job Skills
Able to communicate and motivate via written media; understands the principles of marketing and advertising
cost-effectiveness, including market sector targeting, product offer development, features-benefits-solutions
selling, cost per response, cost per conversion, etc. Appreciates need for consistency within company's branding
and marketing mix, especially PR and the Internet.
Computer skills
Must be adept in use of MS Office 2007 or later, particularly Excel and Word, and ideally Access or similar
database to basic level, Internet and email.
Business and Selling Skills
Must be an excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator who is able to demonstrate success and
experience managing major accounts customers, large contracts or even a business, particularly achieving
genuine sales development. Ideal background would be in services industry.
Management Ability
Superior people-management skills, experience and natural ability will be critical.
