How to wear your IGGS/IJGS uniform Every family enrolling students at IGGS/IJGS receives
a uniform list of what to wear. Here’s HOW to wear it!
General
Students must wear full school uniform to school every day. All uniform
items should be clean and in good repair.
Full uniform, including hat, to be worn when wearing the uniform in
public before and after school, e.g. at shopping centres (no joggers,
thongs, hair down, etc).
IGGS Dress - Length to be just below the knee
IJGS Culottes - Knee length
Boys’ Shirts - Tucked in
Students must carry IGGS/IJGS school, book and sports bags. No other
type of bag is permitted.
The School Hat must be worn to and from
School each day and when students are
attending excursions or school activities,
unless directed otherwise.
It should be worn at all times when wearing
the uniform in public.
Hair should be styled so that the hat sits
properly on the student’s head.
Badges
The School Badge is worn on the
lower part of the left collar
(over the heart).
• The IJGS safety pin is hidden under the collar.
• All leadership badges are worn above the School
Badge, including House and Co-curricular Captain
badges.
• House & Year 7 Badges are pinned on the lower part of
the right collar.
• IGGS Duke of Edinburgh badges and Boarder’s Badge,
and IJGS Student-of-the-Week badge are worn above
the House badge.
• The IGGS Senior Badge is pinned on the middle of the
navy tie.
• Membership/participation badges are to be worn on
the right collar above the House Badge and only for
the duration of the activity (e.g. Z-Club, History Club,
IGGSPRESS)
• Charity badges are only to be worn for the duration of
the School’s campaign, and must be worn on the righthand collar.
• Pride of Ipswich badges may be worn on the right-hand
collar at community and ambassadorship events.
• No badges to be worn on blazer lapels.
IGGS Blazers
• Worn by all students in Years 7—12 during winter
months and on formal occasions (e.g. representing the
School at events).
• School dress collar is to be worn inside the lapels when
wearing the blazer.
• Must be worn as well when wearing a jumper over the
school dress outside the school grounds.
White Socks - Folded down for IJGS girls; not folded
for Senior and Middle School students.
Grey Socks - Pulled up under the knee (IJGS boys).
Navy Stockings - Worn in winter by all female students
IGGS Tie
• White: Years 7—9
• Pale Blue: Years 10 & 11
• Navy: Year 12
Worn ‘outside’ the V when wearing a jumper.
No badges (except Seniors’ Badge)
Collars
All IJGS and IGGS collars are to be worn
'out' when wearing jumpers or cardigans.
IGGS collars are to be worn ‘in’ with the
blazer.
(IJGS girls may continue to wear short white socks).
No anklet socks.
School Shoes must be plain, standard black
leather lace-up shoes in the traditional style,
with 2-3 cm heels, and polished regularly.
No deck shoes, ballet styles, boots or maryjanes (strap across the instep).
The Sports Uniform must be
worn for PE and sports training.
It is not to be worn to and from
School unless special permission is
given.
Approved sports caps must be worn when participating in
outdoor PE classes and sports.
Hair longer than the collar must be
Jewellery & Make-Up
A plain, discreet watch (with plain silver, gold or dark
leather band, e.g. navy, black, brown) and/or a single pair
of plain, small gold or silver studs or sleepers in pierced
earlobes are the only jewellery allowed. No pearl or
gemstone studs.
No rings, necklaces or bracelets (except approved medialert bracelets).
Any form of tongue, facial or body piercing jewellery is not
allowed, including clear/flesh-coloured studs.
No make up is to be worn (incl. foundation, eyeliner, mascara). Clear nail
polish and lip gloss/balm are permitted.
neatly tied back with hair bands and navy
ribbons (1-2 cm wide), or school tartan
scrunchies and plain clips/pins. Checked,
striped, gauzy, spotted or other-shadeof-blue ribbons are not permitted.
Long fringes should be pinned back.
Navy headbands from the Uniform Shop are permitted.
Dyed hair may only be one shade lighter or darker than
the student’s natural colour. Contrasting foils or patches
of colour are not permitted.
Boys’ hair should not be shorter than blade 3 length, have
undercuts, or be longer than the collar top.
