What is GoodGuides?
Goodwill GoodGuides® is a national
mentoring program that is meant to help
youth build career plans and skills, and
prepare for school completion, postsecondary training and productive work.
The purpose of Goodwill Industries-Knoxville,
Inc. is to provide vocational services and
employment opportunities for people with
barriers to employment.
The program is designed for youth
between the ages of 12 and 17 who are
at risk for making harmful choices such
as dropping out of school or are at risk for
delinquency or joining the juvenile justice
system.
The goal is to support youth in making
positive choices, contributing to the
community and exploring healthy career
options.
This project was supported by Grant No.
2011-JU-FX-0200 awarded by the Office
of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
Prevention, Office of Justice Programs,
U.S. Department of Justice. Points

For over 40 years Goodwill IndustriesKnoxville, Inc. has provided job training
and employment services to disabled and
disadvantaged citizens in our 15 county
service delivery area. Over the years, the staff
has expanded from six or seven, to more than
460 in 2013. Client services have expanded
from serving less than 75 disabled individuals
annually, to more than 5,200 during 2013.
The GoodGuides® mentoring program of
Goodwill Industries-Knoxville, Inc. is part of
a national initiative by Goodwill Industries
International® funded with a grant award from
the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

As a mentor, you will:
Who should be a mentor?

GoodGuides™ mentors are of strong
moral character, dependable, truly like
adolescents, and are willing to commit at
least one year to helping a young person
or group of young people uncover and
develop similar characteristics. They are
good listeners, encouraging, supportive,
flexible, patient, tolerant, and respectful of
individual differences.

Help prepare youth for good jobs and
careers
Empower young people to make positive
decisions and future career choices.
Contribute to the well-being and capabilities
of youth.
Offer encouragement and guidance to
youth in your community.
Experience the joy of volunteering and
making a difference in the lives of others.

expanding your own worldview.
Peer mentors must be at least
16 years of age, and adult
mentors must be 18 years of
age or older to volunteer.
