Washington Outlook
FIA President John Damgard will moderate a wide-ranging
discussion on the political trends affecting the derivatives
industry, starting with the landmark election of Barack Obama
as U.S. President. This panel of experts will also consider how
the new Democratic super-majority in Congress might address
issues of interest to our industry, such as the streamlining of
regulatory agencies, transaction taxes, and the regulation of OTC
derivatives. Panelists include Thomas Davis, an attorney at Davis
& Harman and a veteran observer of the Washington scene;
Terrence Duffy, executive chairman, CME Group; Michael Dunn,
the senior Democratic member of the Commodity Futures Trading
Commission; David Keene, a political strategist and chairman
of the American Conservative Union; Johnathan Short, senior
vice president and general counsel at IntercontinentalExchange;
and Michael Stein, managing director of government relations at
Morgan Stanley.
Lehman Bankruptcy:
Lessons Learned
Kenneth Raisler, a partner with the law firm of Sullivan and
Cromwell and a member of the FIA board of directors, will lead
a panel of U.S. and European experts in a discussion on what the
industry has learned from the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers
and the impact on Lehman’s clients. The panelists include
Ronald Filler, a former managing director in Lehman’s futures
division; Christopher Jones, head of risk management at LCH.
