Lacing Cards
Children love lacing cards. You have the
option of printing up color or b & w cards to
color yourself.
You can print up the color lacing cards, cut
out on the dotted line, laminate, and punch
holes around the card using a hole punch.
Give the children lacing strings, yarn or
shoe laces to lace the cards.
The b & w set can also be used as an
additional craft for the children. Give each
child one of the cards, have them color and
cut out. Have an adult punch holes, and
they can lace using the above options of
string.

Words That Begin With J Book
Print out the following pages to make a "Words That
Start with J" book, an early reader book for young
readers about the letter J.
There are two rectangular book pages on each
printed page. Have the children cut each page in half
along the dotted line. Staple the pages together at
the left of the page, then read the book, color the
pages, and practice writing the letter J or the words.

Recognizing the Letter “ J ”
Introduce the letter “ J ” to the children by
showing them the written word “Jam” and
helping them to see that it begins with a “J ”.
Cut a large Jam jar shape out of paper and
write the letter “ J ” on it. Have the children tear
or cut out magazine pictures beginning with the
letter “ J ” and then glue the pictures on the
Jam shape.
Another idea is to pick up stickers from a local
scrapbook store that start with the letter J. Jelly
beans, Jet, Jingle bells, etc., and have the
children place on the Jam shape.

Jack-O-Lantern Collage
What You Need:
Contact paper
Orange and black construction or
tissue paper.
Directions:
Cut the contact paper into the shape
of a Jack-O-Lantern. Let the children place
construction paper on it. Use orange paper for
the body of the jack-O-Lantern. Black paper
for the mouth, nose and eyes.
Cover the Jack-O-Lantern with another piece
of contact paper and cut to form a Jack-OLantern collage.

Jumping on "J's"
• Print out copies of the large letter J pattern.
• Have the children color the letters. One color
per letter. (Red, Green, Orange, Etc).
• Don’t cut them out.
• Cover the print out with contact paper, if you
would like to reuse them.
• Lay the paper J’s across the color (1 – 2 feet
apart) and tape them in place.
• Play a jumping game with the children.
• Have them take turns jumping from one J to
the other all the way across the room. Have
them call out what color letter they will jump
on.
HouseKeeping Area (Dress-Up)
Fill your dress up area with lots of items like:
• Jackets
• Jeans
• Jerseys
• Jumpers

Jeweled “J”s
• Print out a copy if a large J Pattern on
white card stock
• Pass out the J shapes and have the
children put dots of white glue on them.
• Give the children some small plastic jewel
shapes (available at craft stores), to place
on their glue dots.
• Let the jeweled shapes dry before the
children handle them.
Jets
• Give the children some large and small
craft sticks and glue.
• Show them how to make simple airplanes
from the craft sticks.
• When the jets are dry, they can be
decorated with markers or paint.
Jazzy Jackets
• Cut out large jacket shapes.
• Encourage the children to decorate the
jackets using markers.

Jewelry
Make jewelry by stringing beads on dental floss.
Paint with Jello
Paint or finger paint with jello. It has a good
smell! Use several different flavors.
Jack in the Box
Make a simple jack in the box by using an empty
small shoe box. Tape the lid onto the box on one
side, cut a slit in the bottom of the box. You can
cut out figures of people or animals from
magazines and cover with clear contact paper.
Use clear packing tape to adhere to a craft stick,
Insert the stick through the bottom of your box.
When you push up on the stick the lid should pop
up. Or you can put the same stick in a paper cup
and have the figure pop in and out of the cup.
J is for Jar
Bring in an oversized jar, and have the children
put a picture of something that begins with J in
the jar. You can then play a game that each child
picks a picture out of the jar and has to name it.
